Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga.,
August 5, 1957.
A special meeting of Town Council was held today at 8 P M in the Council Room
and was attended by Mayor Brown, who presided, and Councilmen Hosti, Hutton, Lovell,
Neddin, Peters, Town Attorney Solms, Jr.,Mr. Harry Shore and Mr.J. A. Booker.
The meeting was called for the purpose of acting on the proposed Tybee Road and
the Spur Road to Little Tybee.
Mr. Booker stated that the height of the proposed fixed bridge over Tybee Creek
adjoining the Carter property was protested and as an alternate he suggested putting
in a jetty at the south end of the island running out through Pelican Beach and then
dredging a cut through a section of Pelican Beach so as to provide a deep waterway
at all tides or come back to the original plan to come down Artier Avenue and run a
fixed bridge over to Little Tytee at the head of Butler Avenue on Tybee Creek. He
would have to get a Resolution of Council authorizing this.
Mr. Shore stated that he spoke to Mayor Brown and Councilman Meddin requesting the
south end or Butler Avenue Route, stating that the Governor wants new beaches.
He also stated that whatever is decided to do there should not be any disagreement
or the whole project might be lost. "Whatever Council decides it should be done in
concrete form.
Councilman Meddin moved that a Resolution be adopted authorizing the erection of a
bridge at the head of Butler Avenue over Tybee Creek to Little Tybee Island.
Councilman Peters seconded and the motion passed.
t Councilman Peters moved that a Resolution be adopted requesting the State Highway
