A special meeting of Town Council was held today at 8 P M in the Council Room and was attended by Mayor Brown, who presided, and Councilmen Hosti, Hutton, Lovell, Neddin, Peters, Town Attorney Solms, Jr.,Mr. Harry Shore and Mr.J. A. Booker. The meeting was called for the purpose of acting on the proposed Tybee Road and the Spur Road to Little Tybee. Mr. Booker stated that the height of the proposed fixed bridge over Tybee Creek adjoining the Carter property was protested and as an alternate he suggested putting in a jetty at the south end of the island running out through Pelican Beach and then dredging a cut through a section of Pelican Beach so as to provide a deep waterway at all tides or come back to the original plan to come down Artier Avenue and run a fixed bridge over to Little Tytee at the head of Butler Avenue on Tybee Creek. He would have to get a Resolution of Council authorizing this. Mr. Shore stated that he spoke to Mayor Brown and Councilman Meddin requesting the south end or Butler Avenue Route, stating that the Governor wants new beaches. He also stated that whatever is decided to do there should not be any disagreement or the whole project might be lost. "Whatever Council decides it should be done in concrete form. Councilman Meddin moved that a Resolution be adopted authorizing the erection of a bridge at the head of Butler Avenue over Tybee Creek to Little Tybee Island. Councilman Peters seconded and the motion passed. t Councilman Peters moved that a Resolution be adopted requesting the State Highway Department to keep the old bridge at Lazaretta after the new one is built. Councilman M ddin seconded and the motion passed. R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, the State Highway Department of Georgia has filed a form of application for the erection of a bridge across Tybee Creek which will run from the spur road immediately East of the Iazaratta Creek to Little Tybee Island; and, WHEREAS, there have been numerous objections against said bridge brought to the attention of the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia; and, WHEREAS, it has been brought to the attention of this governing body that the lo- cation of a bridge from Tybee Island to Little Tybee Island is more feasible and less expensive if located at the southern extremity of Butler Avenue or the southern extremity of Inlet Avenue where the old railroad turn table was formerly located; NOV THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, in council assembled that the State Highway Department be re- quested to locate the bridge at the southern dxtremity of Butler Avenue or the southern extremity of Inlet Avenue for the crossing from Tybee Island to Little Tybee Island, whichever location is desirable to the State Highway Department. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the State Highway Department be advised that the un- opened streets and lands owned by the mhnicipality in either of the locations aforesaid will be made available to the State Highway Department for the erection of said bridge; 124 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the State Highway Department erect over Lazaretta Creek a new four lane *midge, straighten and four lane the road from said bridge to Butler Avenue and widen the existing four lanes of Butler Avenue to the bridge to Little Tybee Wand. 1 1 1
