Dear Chief Mark Overton, Bal Harbour Police Department
We would like to acknowledge the recent contribution of Detective Hector Gonzalez to the
success of the December 2016 Florida State Fire College course titled "Fire and Life Safety
Educator I" which was held in Broward County. Detective Gonzalez utilized his teaching
skills and expertise to provide autism awareness education to a group of 30 adult students.
This group, which represented 22 fire departments throughout the state of Florida, found
Detective Gonzalez's presentation to be both professional and engaging.
Detective Gonzalez provided valuable information to emergency first responders that helped
them to develop insight into the experiences of people with autism. This knowledge will be
used to promote best practices for fire and life safety education as well as injury prevention
programming.
If there is anything our team can provide to assist your agency, please let us know. Our
continued collaboration and teamwork has allowed us to better serve the residents and visitors
of Broward County and the state of Florida.
