A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE,
FLORIDA URGING THE STATE OF FLORIDA AND
METROPOLITAN DADE COUNTY TO TAKE APPROPRIATE
ACTION IN ORDER TO PERMIT THE VILLAGE OF KEY
BISCAYNE TO OPERATE, MAINTAIN AND USE PORTIONS
OF BILL BAGGS, CAPE FLORIDA STATE RECREATIONAL
AREA FOR PLAYING FACILITIES AND PROVIDING FOR
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Village of Key Biscayne, Florida is in desperat=e
need of playing fields for its children and teenagers; and
WHEREAS, inadequate land is available within the Village f)]
use as playing fields; and
WHEREAS, currently Village sports activities are conducted, n
part, on playing fields in Crandon Park; and
WHEREAS, the proposed Crandon Park Master Plan contemplatm5
converting playing field.s into other park facilities; and
WHEREAS, Bill Baggs, Cape Florida State Recreational Area
contains adequate space for playing fields, which area w4S
devastated by Hurricane Andrew and has not been re -vegetated; a:id
WHEREAS, the Village of Key Biscayne is in a position t:o
provide assistance to the State of Florida in maintaining, upgrading
and supervising the use of a portion of Bill Baggs, Cape Florifla
Recreational Area; and
WHEREAS, Bill Baggs, Cape Florida State Recreational Area 1-s
immediately adjacent to the Village of Key Biscayne, providing eaplY
access to children and teenagers without the necessity of traversing
heavily trafficked roads and/or using automobiles or other
transportation;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE MEMBERS OF
THE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the State of Florida and Metropolitan Dade
County are hereby urged to take all necessary action in order to
permit the Village of Key Biscayne to use, operate and maintain a
portion of Bill Baggs, Cape Florida State Recreational Area for use
as playing fields.
Section 2. That the Village Clerk is hereby directed to
provide copies of this Resolution to appropriate state and county
officials.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately
upon its adoption.
