A meeting of the Committee of the Whole was held today at 8 P.M. in the Council Room
and was attended by Mayor Brown,, who presided, Councilmen Peters, Hutton, Hosti, Waters,
Meddin, Town Attorney Solna, Jr. and Messrs. Thos. Gignillat, Wm. Lattimore, Pratt
Adams, Lawton Livingston, John H. Wylly.
Mr. Adana read the proposed Resolution suggesting that the Town adopt, stating that
their prime interest was in securing improvements in the existing road and bridges to
Tybee Island and that they are agreeable to the proposed crossing of a spur road to
Little Tybee. The Mayor stated that Council would go along with the State Highway
Department. Mr. Solms stated that what the Town wants is the present road to be made
safe for travel. Mr. Adana stated that that was all his Committee wanted. Mr. wily
suggested that a Committee be appointed to go to the County Commissioners and ascertain
what could be done about the President Street road. Mr. Solna suggested that a Committee
go to Atlanta and see the application for the Lazaretto Creek bridge. He also advised
that the Bored should not be interested in petitions as to where the road to Little Tybee
should go, what Council wants is the present road to Tybee improved.
There being no further business, Council adjourned, subject to the call of the Mayor.

A special meeting of Town Council was held today at 9 P.M. in the Council Room and
was attended bby Mayor Brown, who presided, and Councilmen Peters, Hutton, Waters,
Hosti, Meddin, Town Attorney Solna, Jr and W. Buddy McCollum.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and pass on a Resolution submitted by
Mr. A Pratt Adams and his Committee relating to the spur road to Little Tybee.
The petition was read to Council whereupon the Mayor asked the pleasure of the Board.
Councilman Peters moved that the Resolution be adopted, Councilman Meddin seconded
and the motion passed unanimously.

AREAS, it is the prime concern of the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach to
have the improvements made on the existing road from Savannah to Savannah Beach
which are so badly needed for the safety of the public, and
WHEREAS, the State Highway Department has indicated interest in doing this and also
in the building of a road and bridge to Little Tybee by a spur off the main road
starting near lazaretto Creek,

NOW THEREFORE HE IT RESOLVED: That the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach
reassert that their primary interest is in securing the improvement of the exist-
ing road and bridges to Tybee and that they are agreeable to the proposed crossing
by the Lazaretto Spur if that site be desired by the State Highway Department.
There being no further business, Council adjourned, subject to the call of the Mayor.

The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 4 P.M. in the Council Room and
was attended by Mayor Brown, who presided, and Councilmen Hutton, Waters, Lovell, Meddin,
Hosti, Peters, Town Attorney Solms, Superintendent Reed, Acting Chief Summerlin and Mr.
R. L. Crawford.
Mr. Crawford as Attorney for Wilson 0. Metts, petitioned Council for the return of the
whiskey license picked up by the Town from Mr. Metts place of business at Butler Avenue
and Second Street, accused of selling whiskey on Sunday, requested that the license be
retutned toll-. Metts so that he could operate his business again. The Mayor informed
Mr. Crawford that Council would discuss the matter, he vas then excused. Nr.Solms
stated that Council was right in picking up this license if it felt justified and
suggested that before any action is taken to wait until the case was disposed of in
court, it is his opinion that there is nothing to be concerned about in taking up his
license.
Mr. Reed called attention to the bill sub :bitted by the Florida Georgia Tractor Company
for repairs to the bull dozer purchased from them last September, the present bill is
for $ to repair a cylinder head which is the third one to be replaced on this
machine, he stated that the first cylinder head became unserviceable only three or four
months after it vas purchased. Councilman Meddin ordered the bills held up and Mr.
Solms was instructed to contact the Florida Georgia Tractor Company regarding this
machine.

Superintendent Reed reported that the sewer lines both storm and sanitary in several
areas are in bad condition and should be replaced at once, Mayor Brown stated that he
had checked a number of areas also and found that repairs are necessary now. Councilman
Hosti suggested that the Town employ a competent engineer to survey the entire set -up,
Councilman Meddin stated that taxes be increased to pay for this work. The Mayor
appointed Councilmen• Lovell and Hosti a committee to handle the matter.
The Mayor asked Superintendent Reed about the condition of the groins on the beach and
he stated that some of the snags between 17th and 18th streets could be pulled and some
could not. Superintendent Reed reported that the water tower should also be inspected.
Councilman Waters stated that if larger pipe vas put in in the vicinity of 12th Street
and Second Avenue would not this let the water get away faster.
Acting Chief Summerlin requested that plywood panels be installed in the meter repair
room at the jail, referred to Councilman Waters.
