Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga.
December 11, 1957.
The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 4 P.M. in the Council Room and
was attended by Mayor Brown, who presided, and Councilmen Peters, Hosti, Hutton, Waters,
Lovell, Meddin, Town Attorney Solms, Jr.,Chief McCutchen„ Superintendent Reed, Mr. Lang
and Mr. F. B. Dillon.
Mr. Dillon presented a new type Portable Resuscitator for use on the ambulance, the cost
of which was $370.00 less $100.00 allowance for the old Resuscitator now in the ambulance.
Council was reminded that the old Resuscitator is the property of the Fire Department who
would have to release it to the Town as payment on the new machine. Mr. Dillon was ex-
cused. It was moved, seconded and passed that the machine be purchased with Councilman
Hutton handling with the Fire Department the matter of getting the old machine released.
Payment for the new machine will be after May 1, 1958.
Mr. Lang reported that there are ten delinquent bills against water consumers, he stated
regarding Mrs. R. J. Bristow the water had been turned off on the property that she had
recently purchased and that it was necessary to pay a cut —in fee to have the water turned
on and there was $30.00 which was due on the water bill. The Board informed Mr. Lang
they were glad that he was able to return to work.
Mayor Brown stated that a Committee had met with Mr. Joseph Hutton in his office regarding
repairs to the sewerage system and it is a major project. Superintendent Reed was asked
if some of the work could be postponed with safety and he stated that it could and that the
business district could go a little longer, that Fifteenth Street is a must, some parts of
Naylor Avenue have already'cayed in and several other streets should be done at this time.
It was statotd that Statesboro, Georgia had gotten some Federal money for it's sewer system
and that Congressman Preston be contacted to ascertain if Tybee could get funds for this
project, the Mayor instructed Mr. Reed to make up a list of necessary work which had to be
done now, Councilman Meddin stated that due to the lack of funds that necessary work be
done now. Mayor Brown instructed Superintendent Reed to contact Mr. Joseph Hutton to
ascertain what work should be done at this time.
The Mayor called attention to the bad unsafe condition of the beach due to a number of
piling in the groins being broken off, he suggested that the drag line might be used to pull
out the old piling.
Councilman Waters called attention to tide waters backing up into the streets and on private
property in the vicinity of Fourteenth Street and Sixth Avenue and asked if flood gates could
be installed to remedy this.
Chief McCutchen reported some bad spots in some of the streets on First Street on the surge
where the culvert is under the road between Hodges Store and Freddie Anderson's'Service Sta-
tion and on the autombbile road west of Myers at Estill Station and First Street and Butler
Avenue.
A request vas made by Mr. Johnny Spahos to ant off a portion of the plat in front of the
parking lot being erected by him on Butler Avenue between Fifteenth Street and Atlantic
Avenue. Referred to the Police Committee.
The minutes of the meeting of November 13th were read and adopted. '
Mr. Solms informed Council that Mr. Pratt Adams and Mr. E.C.Brennan were going to Atlanta
and that a meeting will be held in Mr. Adams office next week relative to the Little Tybee
road and that if the Board wished to express any views they would be glad to have them.

Bills for the month of November for General Government amounting to $1,922.32 and for
the Water Department amounting to $716.19 were on motion made, seconded and passed for
payment.
Councilman Lovell made a motion that the State Highway Department be requested to pave
Lewis Avenue which was seconded and passed. Mr.•Solms was requested to handle the matter
with the State Highway Department.
Councilman. Waters moved that 'the request of the Mayflower Hotel by W. G. Cutten to trans-
fer its 1957 whiskey license to the Variety Center by W. G. Outten in Fort Screven, be
denied. It was moved, seconded and passed that the request be disapproved.
Councilman Hosti made a motion that tobacco and cigarettes be given to the guards and
prisoners at the prison camp as a Christmas token which was seconded and passed. Council-
man Hosti will purchase these items.
It was moved, seconded and passed that the town employees be paid their full salary for
the month of December on December 15th.
There being no further business, Council adjourned, subject to the call of the Mayor.

The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 4 P.M. in the Council Room and
was attended by Mayor Brown, who presided, and Councilmen Hosti, Hutton, Waters, Meddin,
Lovell, Town Attorney Solms, Jr.,Chief McCutchen, Superintendent Reed, Mr. J. W. Lang,
Mr. William F. Braziel, Mr. L. V. Davis and Mr. Sam Goldberg.
Mr. Braziel representing Vt. Davis protested against his client being stopped from in-
stalling plumbing work on property owned by him, he contended that since this was Mr.
Davis own property he had a right to install the plumbing subject to it passing the
building code, Councilman Hosti stated that several island plumbers had protested
against Mr. Davis doing the work, Mr. Lang read a letter from Mr. A.L. Alexander, former
Town Attorney dated January 13, 1947 authorizing plumbing work to be done by owners on
their property. Messrs. Davis and Braziel were excused.
Mr. Goldberg requested permission to remodel the building known as Stevens Place on
Butler Avenue and make it a one story building puting in new footings, etd. The Mayor
advised him to bring in his plans and submit them to Mr. Lang for approval. Mr.Goldbarg
stated that he would sign an agreement to improve the building that he had a tenant
ready to occupy it. Mr. Goldberg was notified to keep the building vacant until it
had been repaired and approved by the Town.
