The first warning was issued for landscaping debris located in front of the property over the weekend. The second warning was issued to a property which had an overgrown lawn. Criminal Investi• ations Division Weekl Summa Report Comments: Sergeant Jack Young continues attending the 10 Week University of Louisville, Command Officer Development Course at Broward Community College, Institute of Public Safety. The Criminal Investigation Detectives participated in a Problem Solving Inter -Agency Detail. In collaboration with the Town of Surfside Police Department and the Town of Bay Harbor Islands; the Bal Harbour Police Detectives provided intelligence on suspects and current crime trends. Detectives also conducted proactive field work and distributed informational flyers. Detectives made a second request for surveillance footage from Gucci regarding a Felony Theft case. They also conducted interviews and obtained statements from management. Detectives conducted an interview of an offender who was in possession of illegal narcotics and paraphernalia. The offender provided a confession and was subsequently arrested. Detectives followed up on a fraud case involving a former association president suspected of embezzling $28,000 in association funds. Detectives obtained and served a subpoena in a fraud case involving a financial institution. In two other theft cases, detectives responded to the Miami Dade County States Attorney's Office, Economic Crimes Unit and requested two subpoenas. A detective attended the monthly intelligence meeting hosted by the North Bay Village Police Department. Detectives were able to network and identify subjects of mutual interest. The Bal Harbour Criminal Investigations Unit has been invited to participate in a FDLE (Florida Department of Law Enforcement) Burglary Intelligence Presentation being held in June of 2017. 3 BAL HARBOUR POLICE DEPARTMENT oP IC P MIGUEL DE LA ROSA Acting Chief of Police Weekly Summary Report Noteworthy Incidents / Arrests Date Incident Type Location 05/20/2017 AOA/Town of Bay Harbor Islands Police Broadview Terrace/97Street Comments: A Town of Bay Harbor Islands police officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle, when the driver suddenly exited the vehicle and fled. Bal Harbour officers responded and assisted them with establishing several containment points. After a coordinated search of the area, the subject was not located. Once the area was cleared, the Bal Harbour officers returned and resumed normal police functions. Date Incident Type Location 05/21/2017 AOA/Surfside Police Abbott Ave/89Street Comments: All Town of Surfside police officers were on the scene of a residential fire. At the request of Surfside police, a Bal Harbour officer responded to Abbott Avenue and 89 Street regarding a complaint of vehicles speeding in the area. The Bal Harbour officer monitored the area, however, no speeding violations were observed. Date Incident Type Location 05/21/2017 Traffic Arrest 9700 Collins Avenue Comments: While conducting traffic enforcement at 9700 Collins Avenue, a Bal Harbour officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for making an illegal right turn from the Bal Harbour Shops. A routine history check revealed the driver did not have a valid driver's license. The driver was issued multiple citations and arrested for operating a vehicle with a suspended driver's license. The driver was released on a scene with a Promise to Appear (PTA) in court at a later date. Date Incident Type Location 05/22/2017 Traffic Arrest 9800 Collins Avenue Comments: A Bal Harbour officer conducting radar speed enforcement on the Collins Avenue corridor observed a vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit and initiated a traffic stop. The subsequent investigation revealed the driver ha never been issued a Florida Driver's License and had two active warrants in the amount of $2000. The driver was arrested and transported to jail. 4 BAL HARBOUR POLICE DEPARTMENT MIGUEL DE LA ROSA Acting Chief of Police Weekly Summary Report Date Incident Type Location 05/22/17 Injured Pelican 10295 Collins Ave (Beach) Comments: Bal Harbour police responded to the beach jetty regarding an injured pelican. The officers were able to safely capture the injured pelican and transported it to Pelican Harbor Rescue for treatment. Date Incident Type Location 05/22/17 AOA/FWC Biscayne Bay Comments: Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission received information of a capsized vessel near Oleta State Park and requested the assistance from the Bal Harbour Police marine patrol. The Bal Harbour officers arrived and located the occupants of the capsized vessel on the shorelipe. The occupants of the vessel were not injured and did not require medical attention.
