An Ordinance Creating New Section 807 of the Code of Ordinances
Regarding Electrical Inspections by the City of Medina
The city council of the city of Medina ordains as follows:
SECTION I: Medina Code Section 807 is hereby created as follows:
City of Medina Electrical Code
Subd. 1. Authority to Inspect. Minnesota Statutes, sections 326B.36 allows the City of
Medina ("City") to provide for the inspection of all electrical installations by the City.
Subd. 2. Electrical Code Adopted. The Minnesota State Building Code, Minnesota Statutes
sections 326B.31 to 326B.399 and Minnesota Rules Chapter 1315, adopted pursuant thereto,
incorporates by reference the National Electrical Code, developed and published by the
National Fire Protection Association, Inc. Additionally, the Minnesota Electrical Act, as
adopted by the Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry
("DOLI") pursuant to Minn. Statutes Chapter 326B, is hereby incorporated by reference.
All such codes and rules are incorporated as if fully set out herein and shall constitute the
electrical code of the City of Medina.
Subd. 3. Compliance with Electrical Code Required. All electrical installations shall comply
with the requirements of the electrical code of the City.
Subd..4. Electrical Inspections. All electrical inspections shall be subject to and in
conformance with the requirements of Minn. Statute, section 326B.36 and this electrical
code.
Subd. 5. Permit Required; Fees. A permit shall be required for electrical work regulated by
this electrical code. Permits shall be issued and fees collected by the City according to
Minn. Statutes 326B.37. In addition, a surcharge fee shall be collected on all permits issued
for work governed by this electrical code in accordance with Minn. Statute, section
326B.148.
Subd. 6. Notice and Appeal. All notices of violations and orders issued under this ordinance
shall be in conformance with Minn. Statute, section 326B.36.
Subd. 7. Violations and Penalties. A violation of the provisions of this ordinance or the codes
incorporated herein is a misdemeanor.

Subd. 8. Limited Authority.
(a) This ordinance authorizes issuance of permits for and inspection of electrical installations by
the City only during any period of time that DOLI is not, for whatever reason, issuing
permits for or conducting inspections of electrical installations.
(b) The City shall continue to provide the required inspection of all electrical installations for
which a permit is issued by the City under this ordinance, unless responsibility for such
inspections is assumed by DOLI.
SECTION II: Notice to the Department of Labor and Industry
Upon adoption and publication of this ordinance, city staff shall file a copy of this ordinance
with DOLI.
SECTION III: Effective Date
The ordinance shall be effective upon its adoption and publication.
