N. in the Council Room and III was attended by Mayor Brown, who presided, and Councilmen, Peters, Hosti, Hutton, Waters, Meddin, Lovell, Town Attorney Solms, Jr.,Chief McCutchen, Superintendent Reed, Mr. J. W. Lang also Mr. R. E. Lee, Mr. George Spirides and Mr. J. N. Carter. Mr. Lee requested permission to operate a rolling concession in the Fort Screven Area on Saturday, Sunday and holidays, selling soft drinks, etc.,he also wanted to lease the stand in Memorial Park. W. Lee was excused. After considering the matter the Board decided to deny both requests. Mr. Spirides wants to put a concrete sidewalk on the north side of Fifteenth Street from Butler avenue to the Strand and requested the cooperation of the Town. Superintendent Reed stated that W.H. Haar wanted to have both sides of Fifteenth Street paved. Mr. Reed stated that he could put a 7 foot walk on the north side and a 9 foot walk on the south side. The Mayor suggested that if they pay two- thirds of the cost that the Towh put it down and stated that Mr. Haar wanted to pay one -half. Mr. Reed was instructed to ,hubmit an estimate as to the cost for the Mayor, Councilman Hosti stated that the Town should pay for the curb and that the property owner should pay the balance. Mr. Carter stated that the Toll Bridge Authority wants to sell bonds to build roads in Georgia and suggested that the Town employ a Public Relations Nan to get some of this money to be used for building roads to the island and requested that if the Town decides to do this that the name of Andy Smith be considered. Chief McCutchen reported that a check on the results of the collection of the parking violations being done by the police women showed a substantial increase. The minutes of the meeting of January 15th were read and adopted. Bills for General Government for the month of January amounting to $2,066.91; for repairs to street and sanitary sewslrs amounting to 4,751.97; for the Water Department amounting to $406.28 and for the Nineteenth Street Groin and Seawall amounting to $7,269.00 were approved for payment on motion made, seconded and passed. • Mr. Solis informed council that the new members of the Board of Registrars wanted more pay for purging the Town's Registration List, it was decided to take no action on this at this time. He also stated that he had been contacted by several people calling his attention to the bad and dangerous condition of the "groins in the south end area and that during the bathing season a number of people had been injured. He also reported that he was still handling the matter regarding the condemnation of several old buildings on the island and that he had talked with Mrs. Goring relative to hers. Councilman Hosti moved that the 1957 beer license at Kent's Drive -in by Mrs. Theresa King be transferred to Kent's Drive -in by S. R. Kent, and that no transfer fee by charged, motion seconded and passed. The matter of having the Telephone Company install dial phones on the island was brought up again and after discussing the matter, Councilman Peters was appointed a Committee to III call on Mr. E. C. Bowen of the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company relative to this. Strickland's Superette by H. E.gtriokland, Jr.,requested permission to erect a sign on property of E.M.Carpenter who has granted permission, at the entrance of the Town. Permission granted. 139 Mrs. Dorothy Wilkes petitioned that the ditch adjacent to her property be cleaned out. Referred to the public. Works Committee. Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Folk petitioned that a low spot in the area of Eighteenth Street end Chatham Avenue be filled. Referred to the public forks Committee. Mr. George Spirides petitioned for the erection of two small signs, one at Fourteenth and Butler and the other at Fifteenth and Butler, permission granted. Mr. Solms informed Council that police Departments could not go into Social Security until it is authorized by the Georgia legislature. There being no further business, Council adjourned, subject to the call of the Mayor. Clerk of Council Mayor Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga. March 12, 195$ The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 4 p M in the Council Room and was attended by Mayor Brown, who presided, and Councilmen, Peters, Hosti, Hutton, Waters, Lovell, Meddin, Town Attorney Solms Jr.,Supt. Reed and Mr. J. W. Lang. Superintendent Reed reported that during the thawing out period after the several freezes this past winter quite a number of water pipes had broken in buildings due to the water not being cut off and that the Town forces had cut off a good many places. He also reported that the Fifteenth Street Sewer will be completed,next week, that Naylor Avenue will be completed next Vednesday and that work on the Nineteenth Street groin is moving along and that 160 feet of it had been completed to date. The Mayor reported that in connection with the proposed Fifteenth Street sidewalk that Wm. H. Haar had= agreed to furnish the material if the. Town would put it down. Bills for the Month of February for General Government amounting to $2,963.62, for the Groin and Sea Wall Department $3,578.57 and for the Water Department amounting to $326.38 were presented and it was moved, seconded and passed that they be paid. Councilman Meddin moved that up to $5,000.00 be transferred from the Mater Department Revenue Account to the General Account as a temporary loan to.be returned to the Revenue Account after the new year's funds begin to come in. Motion was seconded, and passed. Gene Remedio petitioned for permission to sell whiskey at what is now known as Rosie's stand in the Carbo Building on Sixteenth Street and that he be permitted to use the whiskey license held by the Mayflower Restaurant by W. G. Cutten, the Police Committee had approved it he stated. It was moved, seconded and passed that petition be granted.
