Bal Harbour Police Department that I requested in order to enhance the flow of
communication and transparency.

Weekly Summary Report
Weekly Code Enforcement Efforts
The code enforcement unit issued one violation and three warnings within the gated community this week. The violation
was issued to a property utilizing a portable storage unit, which are prohibited by the code. The property owner had
been previously issued a warning requesting the removal of the storage unit. There were two warnings issued to
residential properties for the maintenance and appearance of their lawns. The final warning was issued to a
construction site for their appearance as well.
A code warning was issued to the Bal Harbour Collins property located at 9930 Collins Ave for the maintenance and
appearance of their landscaping.
A code warning was also issued to a fisherman who was discovered fishing from the rocks located along the jetty.
Criminal Investigations Division Weekly Summa Report
Comments:
Detective Sergeant Jack Young continues to attend the University of Louisville Kentucky, Command Officers
Development Course being held at Broward Community College, Public Safety Institute.
Detectives began a preliminary investigation regarding a graffiti case and issued an informational flyer to all neighboring
agencies.
Detectives followed up on several investigations which included securing a subpoena in one case and developing
probable cause for arrest on another.
Detectives are also gathering information and leads stemming from a vehicle burglary which occurred in the Bal Harbour
Shops parking garage.

Comments:
A Bal Harbour Shops security supervisor notified police communications of a possible domestic argument involving a
couple. The couple was observed boarding a Miami Dade Transit Bus and proceed southbound on Harding Avenue.
The bus was stopped and police officers located the parties involved. The investigation revealed that no c�r a had
occurred and the couple continued on their way.

9600 Collins Avenue
Comments:
Bal Harbour police officers were notified of a male laying on the ground near the bus bench on the 9600 Block of Collins
Avenue. The officers responded and inquired if the male needed medical attention, the individual advised he had been
working all day and fell asleep while waiting on the bus. The male did not require medical attention and boarded the
next bus.

Collins Avenue Corridor
Comments:
While patrolling the Collins Avenue corridor, a Bal Habour police officer observed a vehicle commit a traffic infraction
and initiated a traffic stop, the investigation revealed the driver was operating a vehicle with a seize tag order issued by
the Department of Highway and Safety Motor Vehicles and a suspended Florida drivers' license. The driver was issued
multiple citations and the vehicle was towed from the scene. Pursuant to the seize tag order, the vehicle's tag was
impounded and placed in BHPD property bureau.

700 Block of 96 Street
Comments:
An FPL transformer near the Bal Harbour west park malfunctioned causing a loud explosion. A man inside the park,
fell down due to the loud blast. The man was accompanied by his children who were not hurt by the incident. The
patient complained of pain to his lower leg, he was examined by Miami Dade Fire Rescue and was medically cleared
at the scene. The blast caused a power outage in the Town of Bay Harbor Islands along East Bay Harbor Road.
Additionally, the lower level of the Bal Harbour Shops parking garage to include number of stores were affected. There
was also one person who was temporarily stuck in an elevator at Neiman Marcus. Photographs were taken and public
works was notified to follow up with a park inspection. During the power outage, Bal Harbour police officers assisted
citizens in locating their vehicles and leaving the Bal Harbour Shops.

Criminal Mischief
10295 Collins Avenue (Ritz Carlton)
Comments:
Bal Harbour officers were summoned to the rear of the Ritz Carlton regarding the painting of graffiti on two of Ritz
Carlton's storage containers located on the beach sand. The investigation revealed that sometime during the late
evening or early morning hours an unknown person(s) had spray painted the two storage boxes and a Bal Habour
beach path sign. Ritz Carlton personnel removed the graffiti and public works personnel removed the damaged path
sign. No other damages were reported. Bal Harbour Criminal Investigations unit is investigating the incident.

Vehicle Burglary
9700 Collins Avenue(Bal Harbour Shops)
Comments:
Bal Harbour officers were notified by Bal Harbour Shops security of a vehicle burglary in the parking garage. The
officers discovered a parked vehicle with the rear window smashed. The owner of the vehicle told the officers she had
purchased some items from the Bal Habour Shops earlier and placed the items on the rear seat of the car. She went
back inside the mall and returned a few hours later, she then discovered the crime had occurred. Bal Harbour officers
photographed and documented incident. Bal Harbour Detectives were notified and are investigating the offense. No
other incidents were reported.

Beach Jetty
Comments:
A Bal Harbour resident discovered that someone had spray painted a small image or letter on the jetty, Bal Harbour
officers arrived and canvassed the area for potential perpetrators or witnesses to no avail. The image was photographed
and properly documented. Public works personnel responded and removed the markings. No other incidents or
damages were reported.

Damage Canary Island Palm Tree
9601 Collins Avenue
Comments:
Bal Harbour officers responded to the 9600 Block of Collins Avenue near the Majestic Condominiums regarding a palm
tree on fire. When the officers arrived, they discovered a small fire ignited from the crown of the palm. Miami Dade Fire
responded and extinguished the fire. Miami Dade Fire personnel suspects the fire possibly ignited from a lit cigarette
tossed from the balcony area of the Majestic Condominiums. No Injuries were reported.

Damage Property
10295 Collins Avenue (Sea Wall)
Comments:
Bal Harbour officers were summoned to the North municipal lot regarding damage to Village property. When the officers
arrived, they discovered the aluminum railing attached to the sea wall was struck by construction equipment operated
by one of the contractors repairing the Haulover Bridge. The worker told the officer the equipment malfunctioned
causing him to lose control and strike the fence. The Bal Harbour officers photographed the damage and documented
the incident. Public Works personnel responded and inspected the damage. No injuries were reported.

Suspicious Incident
236 Bal Bay Drive
Comments:
A concerned resident notified the Bal Harbour Police Department reference a kayak near his dock. Once police officers
arrived they made contact with the kayaker. The individual who is a Town of Surfside resident, was out on his kayak
and was snorkeling in the open unrestricted Intra-Coastal Waterway. The person was cleared of any open wants or
warrants and continued on his way: -The reporter was appraised of the outcome.
