The meeting was to discuss an evaluation of the lighting along the beachfront along with best practices for the conservation of the sea turtle nests and hatchlings. There were two code warnings issued along the jetty this week. The warnings involved individuals fishing from prohibited areas. One of the individuals was fishing from the rocks along the jetty posing a safety hazard. Criminal Investi • ations Division Weekl Summa Re • ort Comments: Detective Sergeant Jack Young continues to attend the University of Louisville "Command Officer Development Course." Detectives arrested a subject for the theft of a purse in the Bal Harbour Shops at Carpaccio's Restaurant. This theft actually occurred earlier in the year. Detectives conducted background investigations for Bal Harbour applicants. Detectives had a meeting with the Miami Dade State Attorney's Office in regards to an ongoing fraud investigation. Noteworthy Incidents / Arrests Date Incident Type Location 07/08/2017 Hazardous Conditions 10200 Block Beach Side by Jetty Comments: While conducting a Beach/Jetty directed patrol, a Bal Harbour police officer discovered several wood planks that had washed ashore. Public Works responded and removed the debris. Date Incident Type Location 07/08/2017 Suspicious Incident 9700 Collins Avenue, Bal Harbour Shops Comments: Employees of the Rolex store reported two separate incidents where potential customers made inquiries that were suspicious in nature. According to the employees, the content of the questions described have been used previously at other locations days prior to a store being robbed. Bal Harbour Village police officers and Bal Harbour Shops security personnel canvassed the mall and the parking lot, however no persons matching the description provided were located. A directed patrol was initiated of the Rolex store and other watch/jewelry establishments in the Bal Harbour Shops/An operational awareness briefing email was sent out to all sworn personnel. 3 BAL HARBOUR POLICE DEPARTMENT MIGUEL DE LA ROSA Acting Chief of Police Weekly Summary Report Date Incident Type Location 07/12/2017 Citizen Assist Ocean Rescue 10300 Block Ocean Side Comments: While conducting normal marine patrol operations, marine patrol personnel observed a capsized Jet ski just east of the Haulover Cut Inlet. An adult male and an 11 year old child were clinging onto the jet ski. The child was pulled out of the water and placed inside the police oat while the male up righted the jet ski. The male was instructed to drive to the calmer bay waters where the chi was transferred safely back onto the jet ski.
