The unit also assisted the Building Department with a violation at a construction site for failing to maintain erosion control. Criminal Investigations Division Weekly Summary Report Comments: Detectives filed a subpoena request with the Miami Dade State Attorney's office in reference to an investigation of battery. Detectives filed a subpoena request with the Miami Dade State Attorney's office in reference to a grand theft investigation. Detectives conducted pawnshop searches in reference to a grand theft investigation. Detectives met with the US Attorneys office in reference to an upcoming sentencing of a defendant. Noteworthy Incidents / Arrests Date Incident Type Location 07/21/2017 Assist Citizen / Hazardous Condition 10200 Block Haulover Jetty Inlet Comments: While conducting a check of the beach and Jetty area, a Bal Harbour Village police officer observed an adult and a child on a canoe struggling in the rough current of the Haulover Inlet. The officer climbed down on the rocks, grabbed the canoe and assisted the occupants onto the Jetty. The officer requested assistance from a passing boat whose captain, as a courtesy agreed to tow the canoe to the Haulover Marina. The adult and child, who were not injured, were transported by the Bal Harbour Village police officer to the marina where they were reunited with relatives. Date Incident Type Location 07/23/2017 AOA Surfside Police 9272 Bay Drive Comments: At the request of the Town of Surfside Police, the Bal Harbour Police crime scene technician responded to a residence in the Town of Surfside to process two vehicles that were burglarized. The Bal Harbour Village technician successfully recovered several latent prints of value that will be submitted for comparison and subject identification. MIGUEL DE LA ROSA ti Acting Chief of Police vp6L cE Weekly Summary Report Date Incident Type Location 07/23/2017 Disabled Vessel Atlantic Ocean Comments: While patrolling the Intracoastal waterways, the Bal Harbour Marine unit observed a disabled vessel drifting towards the shore line. Due to the proximity of the vessel to the shore line, the Bal Harbour Marine Patrol towed the vessel to the Haulover Marina. Date Incident Type Location 07/23/2017 Disturbance Loud Music Intracoastal Waterway / 212 Bal Bay Drive Comments: A resident, wishing to remain anonymous, called the Bal Harbour Police Department to report loud music from a boat anchored in the Intracoastal Waterway. The Bal Harbour Marine Patrol unit was not in service, assistance from the Indian Creek Marine Patrol was requested. Although no violation occurred, Indian Creek police officers made contact with the vessel captain who voluntarily turned down the music. Date Incident Type Location 07/24/2017 Arrest/Traffic 9800 Block Collins Avenue Comments: While conducting radar speed enforcement on Collins Avenue, a Bal Harbour police officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The subsequent investigation revealed that the driver had no license, proof of insurance or registration. The driver was cited, arrested for No Valid Driver's License and transported to the Miami Dade Correctional Facility. The vehicle was impounded and towed from the scene. Date Incident Type Location 07/26/2017 Battery / Simple Saks Fifth Avenue Comments: A dispute between two employees resulted with one of the parties involved striking the other. Saks Fifth Avenue management suspended both employees until their investigation is complete. Later, the victim in this case responded to the police station and filed a report. The subject was not located at the time of the report since he had left the store after being suspended. The case has been assigned to the Bal Harbour police department criminal investigations unit. BAL HARBOUR POLICE DEPARTMENT MIGUEL DE LA ROSA Acting Chief of Police Weekly Summary Report Date Incident Type Location 07/27/2017 Arrest / Trespass 9703 Collins Avenue, St. Regis Hotel Comments: St. Regis security personnel called the Bal Harbour police department to report a disturbance involving a female that was refusing to leave the premises. The female was attempting to gain access to players from a foreign soccer team in town for the El Classico Miami Soccer Tournament. Once on the scene, the officer ordered the subject to leave, however all orders were refused. The subject was eventually arrested and transported to the Miami Dade County Correctional Facility. Date Incident Type Location 07/27/2017 Traffic Light Out 9600 Block Bal Harbour Shops Exit/Entrance Comments: While on routine patrol, a Bal Harbour polic officer discovered the light was malfunctioning and completely out in all directions.
