I attended the Autism Awareness Training for Law Enforcement Officers and First
Responders that you and Donna Lorman taught last week in Sanford. I have attended many
training classes throughout my 33 year law enforcement career and this was, by far, one of the
best. As you and Ms. Lorman were speaking on the levels, characteristics and concerns of
autism, your sons were exhibiting some of the exact same behaviors you were referencing. Your
section on law enforcement interactions, pat downs and searches, interviews and interrogations
and arresting an individual with autism was extremely helpful. Officers may be able to learn the
basics sitting in front of a computer but there is so substitute for the first-hand experience you
provided. It's awesome of your Chief and the Bal Harbour Police Department to allow you to
share your expertise on this topic with officers around the state.
Thank you for sharing your son Christopher with us and allowing us to learn from him
and your family's experiences. On behalf of those who attended from our office, thank you again
for the wonderful training and new skills we now have. You and Donna are doing great work!
Sincerely,
PHIL ARCHER
