The unit is working with contractors to ensure all construction sites are returned to their pre-storm conditions. Additionally, we continue to evaluate the progress of properties in their efforts to remove storm debris. Criminal Investigations Division Weekly Summary Report Comments: The Bal Harbour police criminal investigations unit continues to gather information regarding the recent residential burglaries. In conjunction with our neighboring agencies, our detective is analyzing latent fingerprints obtained from the crime scenes and has submitted them for comparison. As part of an ongoing fraud investigation, our detective continues the process of reviewing court subpoenas and instructions. Detective Gonzalez also conducted a course on Autism Awareness at the Miami Dade College Institute of Criminal Justice. Noteworthy Incidents / Arrests Date Incident Type Location 09/16/2017 Found Property 10100 Block Beach Side Comments: In the course of conducting Hurricane Irma safety and damage assessment of the beach area, a Bal Harbour police officer located a washed up life jacket belonging to the U.S. Geological Survey Team. The property was impounded and an email was sent to the department notifying them of the found property. Date Incident Type Location 09/16/2017 Hazardous Conditions Haulover Inlet by Bal Harbour Jetty Comments: Hurricane Irma displaced one of the beachside exclusionary zone buoy markers causing it to re-anchor itself in the middle of Haulover Cut. The US Coast Guard was advised of the hazard and they issued a marine advisory. Bal Harbour and Aventura marine patrol officers were able to recover and replace the buoy back to the original position removing the hazard. BAL HARBOUR POLICE DEPARTMENT MIGUEL DE LA ROSA Chief of Police Weekly Summary Report 4 Date Incident Type Location 09/20/2017 Minor Electrical Fire 10240 Collins Avenue, Bal Bridge North COMMENTS: Bal Harbour police officers and the Miami Dade County Fire Department were dispatched to a fire after residents observed smoke emitting from the elevator shaft. Police officers arrived and began to evacuate residents until the fire department could assess the damage. The fire department personnel determined the smoke had been caused by an electrical issue and deemed the building safe. Residents were then allowed back into their apartments. There was no damage nor loss of power failure associated with this incident. Date Incident Type Location 09/20/2017 Possible Fire 9700 Collins Avenue, Neiman Marcus Comments: A Bal Harbour police officer and the Miami Dade Fire Department were dispatched to a possible fire inside the store. As the officer arrived, employees were already in the process of evacuating the store. The fire department personnel conducted their assessment, and determined that no fire occurred. The store’s boiler started to leak causing steam to escape giving the appearance of smoke to the employees. The store immediately returned to normal operations. Date Incident Type Location 09/20/2017 Traffic Incident 2 Harbour Way, Kent Security Guard House Comments: While on routine patrol, the Bal Harbour public service aid observed vehicular traffic entering the gated community causing a back-up onto Collins Avenue. Our personnel provided assistance and managed the traffic flow until the driveway was cleared. Date Incident Type Location 09/20/2017 Abandoned Property 10100 Block and the Beach Hard Pack Comments: While on routine patrol, a Bal Harbour officer observed a damaged bicycle abandoned on the beach path. The bicycle was impounded and placed in the Bal Harbour police property bureau. BAL HARBOUR POLICE DEPARTMENT MIGUEL DE LA ROSA Chief of Police Weekly Summary Report 5 Date Incident Type Location 09/20/2017 Swim Zone Violation 10100 Block and Atlantic Ocean Comments: The Bal Harbour police department received an anonymous call reference a small vessel inside the swim exclusionary zone by the beach. Bal Harbour police officers located the vessel which was just inside of the restricted zone. Officers made contact with the boat captain who was casting a net for bait fish.
