Subject: Bal Harbour Police Department Weekly Report for the period of
October 20, 2017 through October 26, 2017
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to transmit to you a Weekly Report from the
Bal Harbour Police Department that I requested in order to enhance the flow of
communication and transparency.

Weekly Summary Report
Weekly Code Enforcement Efforts
The code enforcement unit continues to monitor the Village. A warning was issued to a landscaping contractor working
at the Carlton Terrace property. The contractor was unaware of the Village code prohibiting work prior to 8:30AM.
Criminal Investigations Division Weekly Summary Report
Comments:
Detectives interviewed a subject apprehended by Bal Harbour officers for committing a fraud and theft at the Bal
Harbour Shops, detectives were able to obtain useful information linked to an ongoing criminal investigation.
Detective Gonzalez responded to a reported vehicle burglary and assisted in processing the scene for evidence and
any investigative leads.
Lieutenant Young and Detective Gonzalez facilitated the new hire orientation training for the two new Bal Harbour
officers, the training included firearms qualifications, use of force, discretionary shooting, and safety -net training. On
Monday, October 30, 2017 the new officers will begin their Field Training assignments.

Comments:
The One Bal Harbour security manager reported four suspicious males on the property, it was later determined, one of
the males, a former employee accessed the parking garage with a transponder. The male parked his vehicle and went
to the Jetty to fish. The males were located and the transponder was returned to the security supervisor. No damages
were reported.

Damaged Traffic Signs
300 Block of 96 Street/Collins Avenue & 96 St.
Comments:
While patrolling the Collins Avenue and 96 Street corridor, a Bal Harbour police officer discovered two traffic signs were
in need of repairs, the Bal Harbor officer notified the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and Miami Dade
County Traffic Maintenance of the issue with the signs.

Vehicle Burglary
9700 Collins Avenue, Bal Harbour Shops
Comments:
Bal Harbour Police were summoned to the Bal Harbour Shops regarding a vehicle burglary, the investigation revealed
the vehicle door was forced opened and someone removed the victim's luggage and other personal items that were in
the rear of the vehicle. The Bal Harbour Crime Scene Unit and Criminal Investigators responded and processed the
vehicle for latent prints and investigative leads.

COMMENTS
The Bal Harbour Shops security manager reported a suspicious male on the property by Carpaccio's Restaurant. Prior
to Bal Harbour officers arriving, the subject removed a bag from the restaurant and fled the area. After a description of
the male was broadcasted, responding officers located the subject on the beach path. The property taken was a trash
bag containing useless items. The subject, a homeless male was issued a trespass warning prohibiting him from
entering the Bal Harbour Shops. Bal Harbour officers offered the male homeless assistance, however, he refused and
immediately left the area. No injuries or damages were resorted.
