PUBLIC ART PROJECTS BY MIAMI –BASED ARTISTS 2018- ongoing Felecia Carlisle jetty project Bal Harbour Jetty Bal Harbour’s jetty is set to glow thanks to Felecia Carlisle’s permanent installation of an in-laid terrazzo design that is a visual depiction of the wind speed at the location. These “speed” stripes will be created in various shades of a specialized terrazzo stone that glows in the dark. Inspired by the preservation of the natural environment, the surface of the jetty will rejuvenate providing a natural glow as night falls, providing light with no external power required. Commissioned by Bal Harbour Village, Carlisle is represented by Brook Dorsch Gallery in Miami. January 15- November 15, 2018 Robert Chambers Rotorelief Bal Harbour’s Founder’s Circle Robert Chambers Rotorelief, on loan from the Taplin collection, is a working helicopter with blades changed out for hypnotic discs, a design inspired by Marcel Duchamp’s spinning optical experiments. Rotorelief will be placed on Founder’s Circle in the center of Collins Avenue as if having landed to take guests to a Bal Harbour hotel, or perhaps shopping. Dedicated to the late Marty Taplin, the work will also sit next to a plaque where Bal Harbour Founder Sol Taplin has his name. This work is presented with thanks to Cricket Taplin. Chambers is represented by Brook Dorsch Gallery in Miami. In progress Troy Simmons bridge project A trained architectural designer and environmental scientist, artist Troy Simmons is the perfect candidate to intervene with the underside of Bal Harbour’s bridge between the jetty and the Quarxo luxury hotel. Inspired by Brutalist architecture, and working with concrete, metal and uniquely mixed colors, Simmons creates interventions that both brighten and appear as if integrated within, the natural environment. This project will be commissioned by Bal Harbour Village and Quarzo Luxury Boutique hotel.
