Tybee Receives $35,000 Contribution for Beach Re-nourishment Effort
Tybee Island, Ga. – (April 1, 2008) The City of Tybee Island is receiving a $35,000 private contribution
for beach re-nourishment efforts from Southern LNG (SLNG). SLNG owns and operates the liquefied
natural gas import terminal on Elba Island.
Southern LNG gave the City of Tybee a check for $25,000. In addition, Southern LNG directed
$10,000 in fees that was to be paid to the company by Mediterranean Shipping Company for
emergency docking when a ship lost power and ran aground in late November. Southern LNG
recommended MSC redirect the dollars into a donation to the Tybee Beach re-nourishment fund.
Tybee’s Mayor Jason Buelterman noted, “We greatly appreciate Southern LNG’s contribution to our
upcoming renourishment efforts. As a beneficiary of the Savannah River shipping channel, they are
committed to being a good neighbor and supporting Tybee.”
“Tybee’s beaches are a great asset for the Georgia Coast that is enjoyed by many of our friends and
families in the surrounding communities,” Chris Humes, General Manager of Southern LNG, said. “As
a part of our corporate vision to be the neighbor to have, we are very excited to help ensure its
longevity.”
