For immediate release (912) 786-4573
Tropical Storm Hannah
Tybee Island, Ga. – (September 2, 2008) At 5:00 PM this afternoon, Tybee’s Mayor Jason Buelterman released the
following statement for residents and visitors to the Tybee Island area:
“We continue to closely monitor Hanna. Any decisions about the possibility of evacuations will in all likelihood be
made Wednesday morning. Please continue to finalize your plans for any potential evacuation order, and stay tuned
to local media outlets for updated information.
“As of Tuesday afternoon, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Admi nistration (NOAA) projects that Hanna is
to make landfall as a Category 1 or 2 Hurricane on the southern coast of Sout h Carolina sometime on Friday.
However, the forecast model has fluctuated and will continue to do so.
As NOAA has already issued warnings of dangerous rip tides along the Southeastern Coastline, our Ocean Rescue
team will be asking swimmers and surfers to stay out of the water until after the storm has passed.
“When additional information becomes available, we will do our very best to disseminate it to you in a timely manner.
But please be advised to stay tuned to local TV and radio stations for updates and information.
“Finally, if you are aware of anyone who may not have the ability to provide their own transportation in the event of
an evacuation, please, as always, contact Tybee Emergency Management Director Jimmy Brown at 786 -4573, ext.
112.”
