HomeMy Public PortalAbout015-1992 - ORDINANCE RECOGNIZING THE1992 BOYS BASKETBALL STATEORDINANCE NO. 15-1992 A SPECIAL ORDINANCE RECOGNIZING THE 1992 BOYS BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONS AND DESIGNATING APRIL 18, 1992, AS RED AND WHITE DAY WHEREAS Richmond High School and its predecessor, Morton High School, have competed in the Indiana High School Athletic Associations Annual Boys Basketball Tournament for 82 years, and WHEREAS Richmond Red Devil teams played hard and honorably throughout the first 81 years of this tournament but never cut down the nets after the final game, and WHEREAS the State of Indiana is recognized throughout the United States of America as the Best Basketball State due to this particular tournament and its long and illustrious tradition, and WHEREAS Head Coach George Griffith; Assistant Coaches Jeff Williams, Corey Van Skyock, Carl Harris and David Fairchild; players Chad Austin, Jackie Bledsoe, Brent Hampton, Jerrad Powers, Damon Lewis, Greg Lynch, Alan Rule, Robert Sanders, Dedric Thompson, Chris Warfel, Billy Wright and Rob Zinkan; student managers Rick Winters, Jason Davis, Kevin Shearer and Jamie Manthey, and trainer Kim Kelly have done something no Red Devil boys basketball team has ever done before, Now, therefore, be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, that: 1. April 18, 1992, is hereby officially designated as Red and White Day; 2. All Richmond citizens and Red Devil fans throughout the world wear Red and White on said day; 3. The Richmond Fire Department provide transportation for the Richmond Red Devil coaches, players, student managers and trainer on a parade throughout the City; 4. The Richmond Police Department escort and herald the parade throughout the City with blaring sirens and flashing lights; 5. The Mayor, Clerk, and executive departments do those things that are appropriate and suitable to honor this memorable feat; 6. The citizens have one grand and glorious celebration on the evening of April 18, 1992, in due recognition of this honorable achievement; 7.
