Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Ga.
October 15, 1958.
The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 4 P.M.in the Council Room and
was attended by Mayor Brown, who presided, and Councilmen Hosti, Hutton, Waters,
Lovell, Town Attorney Solna, Jr.,and Supt. Reed.
Mr. Reed reported that it would be necessary to make repairs to the bull dozer and
the cost would be $2,621.00. It was moved, seconded and passed that the work be
authorized.
Councilman Lovell called attention to the bad condition of the groins at Tilton and
First Streets, Councilman Hosti suggested that salvaged auto bodies be put at this
location to help build up the beach.
The minutes of the meeting of September 24 were read and adopted.
The Mayor reported that Mr. Carmichael of the Chatham County Mosquito Control De-
partment had been down and inspected several parts of the island and reported that
most of the mosquito breeding was from stagnant water which should be drained. He
offered the use of the drag line when it was available.
It was moved, seconded and passed that bills for the month of September for General
Government amounting to $1,835.92 and for the Hater Department amounting to $629.84
be paid.
Nom. H. A. Brewer offered to sell the water mains installed by him on his property
to the Town for the amount he owed for water service which amounted to $ 85.54.
It was moved, seconded and passed that the offer be accepted.
Councilman Waters presented a pamphlet which provides for hospitalization for Police
Officers. Mr. Solme informed him that the Police Officers would be able to get
Social Security in the very near future so no action was taken on the hospitalization
plan.
The Mayor asked if anyone knew of any differences existing between Fire Chief Burke
and Mr. Edwards, Principal of the Tybee School. Councilman Hutton stated that the
cause of this was that the school authorities have not cooperated sufficiently and
that recently a fire drill was called by Chief Burke, which was in order, and the key
to the fire alarm was not in the proper location.
Councilman Hosti reported that an examination was held Saturday, October 12th, for
electricians and that Clarence M. Jordan and Nelson passed and that -Lawson A.
Wilkes failed.
Councilman Hosti asked when the Town was going to get dial telephones, the Mayor in-
formed him that he is still trying and that at the last meeting of the Savannah Beach
Chamber of Commerce the matter was presented at that meeting and they will also handle
the matter.
There being no further business, Council adjourned, subject to the call of the Chairman.
