Public Notice
The city council of the city of
Medina has adopted Ordinance
No. 566, an ordinance adding a
new section 313 to the code of
ordinances regarding social hosts.
The purpose of the ordinance is to
make adults criminally responsible
for the possession or consumption
of alcohol by underage persons at
a gathering if they 1) know that al-
cohol will be present, 2) know that
underage persons will or are likely to
attend, and 3) fail to take reasonable
steps to prevent the possession or
consumption by underage persons.
In essence, the ordinance makes
parents or other adults criminally re-
sponsible for underage possession
or consumption of alcohol under
the above circumstances. The or-
dinance permits certain exceptions,
including situations in which under-
age persons are allowed to con-
sume alcohol by their parents in the
presence of their parents. The full

able for inspection at Medina city
hall during regular business hours.
