The VIGUBA Trio performs for “Third Thursdays on Tybee” in June
Tybee Island, GA – (June 3, 2010) Third Thursdays on Tybee, the outdoor musical concert series, brought to you
by Tybee Island’s Better Hometown Initiative program is pleased to announce that The VIGUBA Trio will perform
on June 17 at 5:30PM.
The VIGUBA Trio will bring a blend of tango, classical, and pop music with an emphasis on jazz standards to
Downtown Tybee at the Tybrisa / Strand Roundabout. The trio in June will be composed of Peter Berquist on
bass, Bruce Spradley on guitar and Jody Espina on saxophone / flute. Berquist, a Tybee resident, has been
principle bass of the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra for nine seasons and performs routinely with the Savannah
Jazz Orchestra. Spradley, a Wilmington Island resident, is an accomplished composer and has performed with
many well known local Jazz musicians as well as teaching music in local schools. Espina, a Savannah resident,
has performed all over the world, which includes performances and recordings with top ensembles and musicians
in the NYC region.
Enjoy strolling and experiencing the shops, restaurants and outdoors around Tybrisa and The Strand on the
southern portion of the Tybee Business Corridor while taking in a listener’s delight. This music series provides free
family-friendly outdoor music. In case of inclement weather, the Trio will perform inside Spanky’s Beachside.
The July 15 Third Thursdays on Tybee performer will be Jan Spillane. This concert will take place on the
Northern Section of the business corridor in the lot of Tybee Oaks.
These concerts are made possible with assistance from the City of Tybee Island and sponsorship support of
WRHQ radio, Creative Approach, Connect Savannah, and The Tybee Times. A portion of Tybee’s Better
Hometown Initiative’s mission is to “support and encourage the arts as a cultural endeavor and economic engine
on the Island.” Third Thursdays on Tybee continues the awareness that Tybee Island has an inviting and thriving
arts community. For more information, visit http://www.cityoftybee.org/BetterHometownProgram.aspx.
About Tybee Island, GA.: The City of Tybee Island, Georgia is on the outermost barrier island off the Savannah area coast. With a wild bird
sanctuary, over three miles of ocean beaches, and salt marshes on the back river, outdoor recreation activities abound for visitors to the
island. As a key defense point to the important Savannah port, Tybee’s Fort Screven, Tybee Fort Theater, Fort Pulaski, and the Tybee Island
and Cockspur Lighthouses combine with the unique architectures of the island’s raised cottages to form a rich backdrop for hi story buffs.
Attracting a strong artistic community, there are several local supporting art galleries. Keeping the island interesting year round are several
arts festivals, the Annual Pirate Fest, the Beach Bum Parade, St Patrick’s Day celebrations, the Hot Rod Run, the Beach Bash, and the
Christmas Parade, as well as fireworks displays on Independence and New Year’s Days off the Walter W. Parker Pier and Pavilion. The Marine
Science Center cooperates with Georgia’s DNR to protect threatened sea turtle species by searching for nes ts, protecting their eggs, and
making sure hatchlings make it to sea. For visitor information, stop by http://www.tybeevisit.com/, and to find more about the City of Tybee
