Georgia singer/songwriter, Oliver and his wife moved from Atlanta to Tybee fulltime last year. His music is straight from the rich heritage of Southern music – the roots of Americana and real country. His sound has been compared to Alan Jackson's and Dwight Yoakum’s. His passion for music and a blend of Americana, classic country songs has earned him a few award-winning originals. Most notably, the Georgia Music Industry Association honored five songs from Thomas’ two CDs at two of its Best of Country showcases. Oliver most often plays as a duo with either George Moser or Chip Zulliger in most venues, performing originals along with a wide range of covers from Johnny Cash to the Grateful Dead, and Elvis Presley to Delbert McClinton and Old Crow Medicine Show. His talents have been previewed throughout this past successful season at a number of Tybee venues as well as the surrounding areas. Beyond his musical talent, Oliver is a graduate from UGA, that followed with a career in journalism which included senior writing and management positions at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as well as the publication in 1986 of the international best seller: “The Real Coke, the Real Story”. In true tradition of the popular Third Thursdays on Tybee performances, Oliver will perform all original music from his two CD’s, as well as new songs that have yet to be recorded. He will be joined by others he performed with in Atlanta under the name of Usual Suspects, which included Wade Watkins on lead guitar and Jake Pollard on harmonica and harmonies. He is delighted that his past band members will be joining him here for this September performance. Enjoy a stroll and experience the shops, restaurants and outdoors around the southern portion of the Business Corridor while taking in a listener’s delight. This music series provides free, family-friendly, outdoor music. In case of inclement weather, Oliver will perform inside Spanky’s Beachside on The Strand. These concerts are made possible with assistance from the City of Tybee Island, private donations, and sponsorship support from WRHQ-FM and Creative Approach. Part of Tybee Island’s Better Hometown Program mission is to “support and encourage the arts as a cultural endeavor and economic engine on the Island.” Third P.O.
