Tybee Island has many holiday activities planned with specials available Thanksgiving Day through New Year’s Day. www.tybeefortheholidays.com is the website with Thanksgiving and Christmas restaurant openings and information about the variety of upcoming events and activities. The annual tree lighting celebration, Lights on for Tybee, is Friday, December 3rd at 6:30pm. Mayor Jason Buelterman officially kicks off Lights on for Tybee with the lighting of the Christmas Tree at the Tybrisa / Strand Roundabout. Local Tybee musician, Sam Adams, and Bill Manucy & the Christmas Choir will fill the downtown area with music from the porch of Historic Carbo House on Tybrisa following the tree lighting. Gretchen Green School of Dance students will be dancing in the streets for additional fun! Tybee Beautification Association (TBA) members will be announcing the winners of the Best Decorated Island Business. Winners will be awarded a poinsettia to display at their location. The evening will include extended store hours, a variety of special offerings, and complimentary refreshments at many locations in the historic downtown area. Two surprise guests, all dressed in red and white, will be making an appearance at this event. These same special guests will return the next day, Saturday, December 4th, for the Annual Tybee Island Holiday Celebration Parade at 1:00pm. A variety of festive participants will travel from 4th Street, next to City Hall, down Butler Avenue to the Tybrisa / Strand Roundabout, where Mr. & Mrs. Claus will situate themselves by the Christmas Tree for children to share their wishes and get their pictures taken. The Tybee Island YMCA and Optimist Club will have family activities in the 16 th Street lot next to the Tybrisa / Strand Roundabout for the enjoyment of the children and parade goers. Specialty shops, art galleries, and restaurants will be open with special offers throughout the season. The 3rd Annual Holiday Shop-n-Stroll will take place December 4 and 5. Retailers will showcase their specials and consumers items during these two shopping days. The Holiday Realtor Tour of Homes is Sunday, December 5th, when available properties, all decked out, will be open for all from 3pm – 6pm. Following the Tour, Crab Shack is hosting a Lit Floating Parade down Chimney Creek for water and parade lovers!
