Councilman Lovell stated that the Tilton Street and First Street groins were in bad shape
and should be given some attention and also that the water tower needs to be repainted.
He also stated that the Water Department needs a new pump at Fort Screven and that he
would get prices on this. 'F„
Superintendent Reed reported that the sewer line on Chatham Avenue running from Jones
Avenue to the boat landing was in bad shape and that some of the pipe had worn very thin.
It was moved, seconded and passed that bills for General Government for the month of
November amounting to $2,892.93 and bills for the Water Department amounting to $313.15 be
paid.
The Mayor informed Council that the DeSoto Beach Hotel was in arrears for taxes and -water
charges which amounted to a considerable sum. After some discussion it was decided that
Mr. Solms would handle the matter with the hotel owners.
The Mayor also called the attention of Council to about seven delinquent water consumers
and also to back taxes. It was decided that after the first of the year a drive started
to collect both back taxes and water accounts.
Councilman Hutton reported that he had talked with Fire Chief Burke about the building used
for Teen Town activities and Chief Burke was of the opinion that it was a fire hazard -. He
informed Mr. R. H. Thompson of this and asked if the State Fire Inspector should come down
and inspect it and make recommendations. It was decided that thisbe donee

Councilman Hosti made a motion that the annual Christmas gift of tobacco and cigarettes be
given to the guards and prisoners at the camp. It was seconded and passed.

Councilman Hosti moved that the old Buick Ambulance be sold, this was seconded and passed.

January 14, 1959.
The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 4 P.M. in the Council Room and
was attended by Mayor Brown, who presided, and Councilmen Hosti, Vaters, Hutton, Love 11,
Meddin, Chief McCutchen, Superintendent Reed, Mr. Johnny- Spahos.
The minutes of the meeting of December 10th were read and adopted.
Mr. Spahos again appeared before Council and requested that to reconsider their.decision
denying him a license to sell beer on Tybriaa Pavilion. He presented a sketch showing
several areas that will be fenced off one of which will be used only where beer is served
and that minors would not be allowed in this area. He stated that his place will be
conducted in an upright manner and he will not allow things to get out of bounds, Mr.
Iipahos was excused. After some discussion of the matter it was moved, seconded and
passed that he be permitted to sell beer on Tybrisa Pavilion effective May 1, 1959.

Superintendent Reed reported that Chatham Avenue and some of the other streets were in
need of repairs. He reported that the estimate for building the jail, police court
room and the parking meter room would be $15,262.00. The Mayor asked was was Council's
attitude about constructing the building. It was moved, seconded and passed that it
be built and that the Town borrow the necessary funds when needed.
Superintendent Reed stated that the residents in the area of Estill Station requested
that water be furnished to their homes. Council after discussing the matter requested
Mr. Reed to check on the matter.
Chief McCutchen reported that the new Police Mercury had been received, also that a
new club is being organized to be known as Savannah Beach Boat Rescue Club. It's plan
is to assist in boat rescues, etc and the club requested that the Town endorse it. The
Mayor asked if this would include work of the Police Department and the Chief stated
that it would not.
Bills for general government for the month of December amounting to $1,413.23 and for
the Water Department amounting to $1,262.45 were upon motion made and seconded, approved
for payment.
Councilman Lovell reported that the estimated cost for a pflmp for the auxiliary station
at Fort Screven would not be over $4,000.00. It was moved, seconded and passed that
the required pump be purchased.
Councilman Hutton called attention to the lack of a curtain on the stage in the auditorium
and stated that it should be repaired. He also suggested that some form of recognition
should be given the volunteer firemen. It was decided that this could be done at a
later date and Mr. Hutton was appointed a Committee of one to handle the matter.
It as moved, seconded and passed. that Mr. Benno P. Hosti be allowed the discount on his
back taxes and also that the Seaview Development Company.be allowed the discount on their
1958 Water Bill on. Lot 39, Ward 5.
It was moved, seconded and passed that a refund of $25.00 be given to Mr. R.H. Seay due
to overpayment on his 1958 beer, license and that this refund be applied to his back taxes.
There being no further business Council adjourned subject to the call of the Mayor.
