Subject: Bal Harbour Police Department - 2017 Annual Uniform Crime Report
Property Loss Update
The purpose of this Letter to the Council (LTC) is to provide you with the data regarding
residential and commercial property losses in calendar year 2017. During the March 2017
Village Council meeting, the police department presented and reviewed the 2017 Uniform
Crime Report (UCR). Consequently, a request was made to distinguish between the value
of losses from residential and commercial property crimes.
The results of our research determined the following:
• Property Crimes reported in 2017 represented a total value of $694,444 in losses.
• Residential Property Crime losses accounted for approximately 71% of the total
value.
o Total Residential Property Crimes Loss = $494,338
o Approximately 36% of this property was recovered.
• Commercial Property Crime losses accounted for approximately 29% of the total
value.
o Total Commercial Property Crimes Loss = $200,106
o Approximately 34% of this property was recovered.
