Gonzalez, Village Manager Date: May 25, 2018 1 Subject: Emergency Sewer Main Replacement South of 223 Bal Bay Drive The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to transmit to you information pertaining to an emergency sewer main line replacement that is scheduled to take place in the street South of 223 Bal Bay Drive. On May 22, 2018 Parks and Public Space Staff responded to reports from residents along the 200 Block of Bal Bay Drive regarding sanitary sewer blockages. Staff responded and determined a blockage existed just South of 223 Bal Bay Drive. A vacuum truck from Shenandoah Construction responded on an emergency basis to jet and clear the blockage. Subsequent to the line clearing, a review of the sanitary sewer video confirmed that the sewer main contains multiple cracks and dips in elevation. This condition causes a reversal in flow within the sanitary sewer main and if not repaired, this condition will lead to continuous blockages. In order to correct this situation, the Village is scheduled to perform emergency work to replace one hundred sixty-seven (167) linear feet of eight (8) inch sewer main to remedy the reverse flow condition. On May 22, 2018, the Village contacted Quality Construction Performance Inc. (QCP) to schedule the emergency replacement of the sewer main. This work is tentatively scheduled to begin May 29, 2018. It is anticipated that there will be no interruptions of sewer service in the area while the repairs are taking place. The estimated time for the replacement is four (4) days, and every attempt will be made to maintain traffic flow. Please see the aerial view attachment of the work area (see attached). Since this work is going to be performed on an emergency basis, if the cost to perform the line replacement and restoration work exceeds the established purchasing authority, an item will be placed on the next scheduled Village Council meeting for retroactive approval of the expenditure.
