The regular meeting of Town Council was held today at 8 P.M. in the Council Room in the Town Hall and was attended by Mayor Brown, who presided, and Councilmen Peters, Powers, Waters, Meddin, Hosti, Town Attorney Solms, Superintendent Reed, Chief McCutchen, Mrs. AhearW and Mrs. Ferrebee. Mrs. Ahearn petitioned that she be permitted to rebuilt and enlarge an old garage she had started work on but the building inspector stopped the work as she was building too close to the adjoining property owner's line. The town attorney'stated'that it would be necessary for her to comply with the Building Code after which she was excused. Referred to Councilman Hosti. Mr. Reed reported that the paving had been completed and that he had nothing else to report. Chief McCutchen stated that if the Board ordered it he would padlock all places handling whiskey and beer on Sunday. The Mayor stated that if only whiskey and beer is sold they will be closed on Sunday, if there are other lines of business in which beer is sold they may stay open but oontainers holding beer will bave to be locked up. Chief McCutchen asked what was the status of Social Security for the Police Department. He stated that the police are now in the Peace Officers Fund of Georgia, Councilman Hosti stated that the Police Department should have Social Security. No further action was taken. Chief McCutchen stated that regarding stray dogs that the laboratory at Oatland Island would like to have any stray dogs which they could get. The minutes of the meeting of July 8th were read and adopted. Wills for the month of July for General Government amounting to $3,069.69 and for the Water Department amounting to $1,959.28 were upon motion made and seconded were passed for payment. Councilman Waters informed Council that the garbage can inspector should check to see that garbage cans have covers also. He will handle the matter. Councilman Hosti reported that due•to outside conditions at the Humpty Dumpty Danceoram a it being difficult to handle groups of teenagers that the place be closed. He moved that the One Hundred Dollar license paid by them be refunded. It was moved, seconded and passed that this be done. Councilman Hosti reported that Mr. George Brand living on Campbell Street requested that several lots which have grown up in weeds be cleared off. The Mayor stated that he would have a survey of lots which have grown up in underbrush made and if necessary have J. F. Missroon do the work and bill the property owners if they do not have the work done themselves. petition was presented by the Marine Rescue Squadron of America, Local Chapter, re- questing that an Ordinance be passed regulating the use of boats, etc. It was decided to hold up on this matter at this time. A Better was presented from the Monarch Oil Company in which they protested against being charged $12.98 for water service rendered at the Phillip's "66' Station contendirt that Mr. Don Smith formerly operated this station and he should pay the bill. Council denied the petition and decided that the Monarch Oil Company should pay this bill 2 Mayor Brown informed Council that there are 135 delinquent accounts for water service. It was decided that notices be sent to these water takers giving them until August 20th to pay the bill or have their water cut—off. Mayor Brown stated that Councilman Lovell suggested that Superintendent Reed be sent to St. Augustine to examine the type of Palmetto Trees that would be used for repairing some of the groins here, he also stated that the parking peter building had been completed. Councilman Meddin asked what wasthe condition of the 19th Street groin and Mr. Reed informed him that no work had been done on it lately and that regarding the groin in front of the Solms Hotel, it will take about five days to repair it. Mr. Reed also stated that some plans should be gotten up by the Town in connection with the new road coming in. Mr. Solms stated that if Butler Avenue is raised this "will cause some of the private property to be low and if this happens some of the property owners are going to get after the Town about this. Mr. Reed stated that in connection with the work to be done on Butler Avenue that the water mains in some locations should be moved. Mr. Sow wanted to know what expenses involve getting easements from the property owners as the State Highway Department will want slope easements. Mayor Brown asked if we should accept the plans as they are.
