LETTER TO COUNCIL
NO. 142-2018
Mayor Gabriel Groisman and Members of the Village Council
Date: September 6, 2018
Subject: Receipt of Anti-Semitic and Threatening E -mails
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to advise you that I am aware that the Mayor
and Council have received a number of emails containing anti-Semitic and, anti -police
rhetoric from an unidentified source. In addition, the Bal Harbour Police Department
(BHPD) also received a suspicious email through the Village's website contact form, which
may be linked to the same sender.
Please be advised that the BHPD is actively working in conjunction with the Federal Bureau
of Investigations (FBI) Joint Terrorism Taskforce to identify the sender, as well as notified
the FBI's Guardian Threat Unit (GTU), which tracks these types of potential threats on a
national level. The GTU shares this type of information with law enforcement partners at
the local, state and federal level in order to ensure public safety. The BHPD has also
contacted the security coordinator for the Greater Miami Jewish Federation to help
disseminate any pertinent information.
If the investigation into these potential threats rises to a criminal violation of any local, state
or federal law, action will be taken as appropriate.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or Acting Chief Raleigh Flowers
at 305.866.5000.
