Gonzalez, Village Manager September 7, 2018 Bal Harbour Police Department - 2018 Semi -Annual Uniform Crime Report The purpose of this Letter to the Council (LTC) is to transmit to you the results of Bal Harbour Village's Semi -Annual Uniform Crime Report (UCR) statistics. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) requires all Florida Law Enforcement agencies to report all crime indexes semi-annual and annually. The data below captures Part 1 Violent and Property Crimes from January 2018 through June 2018. Part I Crimes include the following violent and non-violent crimes: Part 1 Violent Crimes • Homicide • Rape • Robbery • Aggravated Assault Part 1 Non -Violent crimes • Burglary • Larceny • Motor Vehicle Theft In 2017, the Semi -Annual UCR report reflected a total of 40 Part 1 Violent Crimes, conversely, in 2018, the Village reported a total of 35 Part I Violent Crimes, resulting in a 12.5% decrease from the previous year. In an effort to provide a comparison of the 2017 and 2018 Semi -Annual UCR crime trends for the Village, the chart below depicts the Part I Crime totals for both years: Type of Crime: 2017 2018 Difference from 2017 Total Violent Crimes 1 1 0% Total Property Crimes 39 34 12.8% decrease During the semi-annual reporting periods of 2017 and 2018, violent crimes were static, and within the department's historical trend. The only violent crime reported was an Aggravated Assault related to a domestic relationship that occurred in the residential district. The chart below illustrates each Part 1 Property Offense category. (Examples of Larceny offenses include minor crimes such as; shoplifting, theft from a vehicle, theft of a bicycle). Our crime tracking initiatives enable us to identify crime trends and implement strategies and solutions to deter and prevent criminal activity within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Village.
