Weekly Summary Report
Weekly Code Enforcement Efforts
The Code Enforcement Unit issued three warnings within the gated community this week. The first warning was issued
to the owner of a dog which was found running at large, the dog was returned to the owner. The second warning was
issued to a construction site for issues regarding the appearance and maintenance of the site. The final warning was
issued to a residential property for the maintenance of the lawn.
Criminal Investigations
Comments:
The Criminal Investigation Division investigated a theft of over $2000.00 in merchandise by a Lyft driver. The Lyft
driver was contracted to deliver the items to a location outside of Bal Harbour, but kept the items for himself. Follow-
up investigation and subpoenaed information led to the identity of the Lyft driver. The driver was summoned to the
police department where he provided a full confession and returned the stolen items. He was charged with felony
theft.
The Criminal Investigation Division provided training support for officers using the Miami -Dade Automated Arrest
Form software.
Noteworthy Incidents / Arrests
10/13/2018
Traffic Incident
Collins Avenue
COMMENTS:
While patrolling the Collins Avenue corridor, officers observed a vehicle traveling southbound in a reckless manner.
Officers activated their emergency equipment in an effort to conduct a traffic stop, however, the driver refused to stop
and fled northbound into Haulover. A Be On the Look Out (BOLO) was issued to surrounding agencies and within
minutes, the vehicle was observed by a Miami -Dade police officer. The driver lost control, struck another vehicle and
fled on foot from the scene. Miami -Dade officers located and arrested the driver for numerous traffic and felony
offenses.

Traffic Warrant Arrest
10200 Block of Collins Avenue
COMMENTS:
While conducting traffic enforcement on Frontage Road, a Bal Harbour police officer initiated a traffic stop. The
subsequent investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended driver's license and an open bench warrant for
driving with a suspended driver's license. The driver was arrested and transported to the Miami -Dade County Jail.

Theft
Bal Harbour Shops
COMMENTS:
Officers were summoned to the Bal Harbour Shops to investigate a theft that occurred at the Oscar De La Renta store.
Employees advised officers that two females entered the store and engaged in what appeared to be a distraction theft
which resulted in several pairs of earrings being stolen. The video footage of the incident will be forwarded to the
Criminal Investigations Division.

10400 Block of Collins Avenue
COMMENTS:
While conducting traffic enforcement on Collins Avenue, officers conducted a traffic stop along the 10400 Block of
Collins Avenue. Officers determined the driver did not have a valid driver's license. A routine history check also
revealed the driver had an outstanding arrest warrant. The driver was taken into custody and transported to jail.
