HomeMy Public PortalAbout08-28-15 Hunger Action Month Press Release August 28, 2015 For Immediate Publication: September is Hunger Action Month Plainfield Residents and Businesses Encouraged To Get Involved Plainfield, IL -- September is National Hunger Action Month and Plainfield is getting involved by hosting a food drive, in cooperation with the Northern Illinois Food Bank, to benefit the Green Harvest Food Pantry, Plainfield Area Interfaith Food Pantry, and the Creekside Cares backpack food program. The Village of Plainfield, Plainfield Public Library, Plainfield Area Chamber of Commerce, and Plainfield School District 202 will be accepting donations from September 1 through September 30. The food pantries would appreciate donations of: oatmeal/cereal/cereal bars; canned chicken and tuna; peanut butter and jelly; pasta and pasta sauce; rice; dried beans; canned fruits and vegetables; soups/ramen; macaroni & cheese; hot chocolate; and individual snacks (granola bars, fruit snacks, pudding, applesauce, cookies, crackers, chips, raisins, cheese & crackers). Personal care products (bar soap, shampoo, toothpaste) and paper products (tissues, toilet paper, paper towel) are also welcomed. Donations can be dropped off at the following locations: Plainfield Area Chamber of Commerce, 24047 W. Lockport Street; Plainfield Library, 15025 S. Illinois Street; Village Hall, 24401 W. Lockport Street; the School District Administration Center, 15732 Howard Street; and all Plainfield School District 202 Schools. Thursday, September 3, is Go Orange Day. Residents are encouraged to wear orange, tie an orange ribbon around their lampposts, or change their porch lights to orange to show support for local hunger relief efforts and to spark a conversation about hunger. Go Orange Day photos can be shared via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using the hashtag #HungerAction and tagging Northern Illinois Food Bank (@ILFoodBank). Other Hunger Action Month events in Plainfield include: • To help raise awareness of hunger in our community, look for the Hunger Action Month Bus around town! • On Thursday, September 3, the Plainfield Library will be holding a Food for Fines Day. You can exchange up to $1.00 in fines per nonperishable item you bring in to donate on Thursday, September 3. • Residents are also encouraged to bring donations to Coffee with the Mayor at Village Hall, 24401 W. Lockport Street, on Wednesday, September 9, at 9 a.m. " Donations will also be accepted at Coffee with the Superintendent on Saturday, September 12, at 8:30 a.m., at the District 202 Administration Center, 15732 Howard Street. " The Plainfield Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a donation drive during their membership luncheon on Wednesday, September 16. " On Tuesday, September 22, Nevin s Brewing Company, 12337 S. Route 59, will give 15% back to hunger if you mention the Northern Illinois Food Bank or Hunger Action Month. Please join us in helping our hungry neighbors!
