Weekly Code Enforcement Efforts
Comments:
The Code Enforcement Unit continues to check the Village for compliance with the code. Additionally, the code officer
has also assisted with the management of the increased traffic levels associated with holiday visitors.
Criminal Investigations
Comments:
Detectives arrested a 16 -year -old male who targeted unlocked vehicles in the gated community. The juvenile was in
possession of items stolen from the vehicles when he was arrested on unrelated charges by Miami Gardens police
detectives. The items linked him to the Bal Harbour break-ins and the juvenile was charged with three counts of
burglary to unocuppied conveyances. The lead officer on the case will meet with the State Attorney's Office on
December 28, to formally file the charges and proceed with prosecution.

COMMENTS:
A large truck attempting to make a U -Turn at the Village gate struck the barrier arm, knocking it to the ground. Personnel
from Public Parks & Spaces responded to the scene and reattached the arm. No one was injured and the barrier arm
was left in proper working order.

10300 Block of Collins Ave
COMMENTS:
Bal Harbour Patrol officers responded to a call of a man threatening to jump into traffic. The incident occurred just
north of the Village limits. Bal Harbour units intervened until Miami -Dade Officers arrived on the scene and assumed
control. The man was not injured.

COMMENTS:
A traffic stop of two juveniles revealed they were unlicensed and driving an automobile without parental authorization.
Since telephone contact with a parent was not possible, the vehicle was towed. Patrol officers drove the juveniles
home and returned custody to their parents. The parents were informed of the juveniles' antics.

Holiday Traffic Detail
Collins Avenue Corridor
COMMENTS:
In anticipation of the expected vehicular and pedestrian traffic associated with an increased level of holiday visitors.
Officers and support personnel have been assigned to the major intersections on Collins Avenue during the late
afternoon into the early evening hours. The personnel are ensuring that traffic flow and pedestrian safety are
maintained along the Collins Avenue corridor.

Arrest - Felony Retail Theft
9700 Collins Avenue, Saks Fifth Avenue
COMMENTS:
Bal Harbour police was summoned to Saks Fifth Avenue regarding a male being detained by loss prevention officers.
The male was captured on CCTV shoplifting a $800 leather jacket. The male was arrested and transported to the
Miami -Dade County Jail for processing.

Distressed Swimmers
10295 Collins Avenue, Ritz -Carlton
COMMENTS:
Bal Harbour police officers were dispatched to the rear of the Ritz -Carlton regarding two distressed swimmers. Upon
arrival, the swimmers were already out of the water after receiving assistance from a man surfboarding. The swimmers,
a father and his young son, advised that they were caught in a rip current. As a pre -caution, the child was treated by
Miami -Dade Fire and released on the scene

COMMENTS:
A Surfside police officer requested assistance after witnessing a physical altercation between two males. Bal Harbour
police officers responded and assisted in gathering witness information and scene preservation. One of the two males
was arrested by Surfside for a misdemeanor battery.

87th Street and Harding Avenue
COMMENTS:
Surfside police received a call of a man with a knife in the middle of Collins Avenue and 87th Street. As the call was
being dispatched, a Bal Harbour police officer who was on the way home, observed the individual running on Harding
Avenue. Officer's from Bal Harbour and Surfside were able to detain the male without incident. The weapon turned
out to be a cardboard cut-out which resembled a large knife. Officers determined that the male was in crisis. The male
was transported to a local hospital by Miami -Dade Fire Rescue for evaluation.

Suspicious Incident
9940 Collins Avenue, Beach Club Apartments
COMMENTS:
In the late evening hours, the resident of an apartment heard the door to the adjacent janitor room open. A brief moment
later, the door to the resident's apartment began to partially open. The resident then observed what he believed to be
a male leaving the area on foot. Officers responded and canvassed the area for any additional information, there was
no video surveillance available at the property.
