HomeMy Public PortalAbout2019.124 (10-01-19) RESOLUTION NO. 2019.124 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD ACCEPTING A GRANT AWARD FROM THE NATIONAL FITNESS CAMPAIGN AND APPROVING AN APPROPRIATION OF $145,000 TO SUPPORT THE PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF A FITNESS COURT AT LYNWOOD CITY PARK WHEREAS, the National Fitness Campaign is a nationally renowned organization that promotes community health and wellness initiatives; and WHEREAS, the National Fitness Campaign has awarded a grant to the City of Lynwood to support a portion of the cost for the purchase and installation of its innovative Fitness Court; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 6-3.13 (a)(2) of the Lynwood Municipal Code, the City may bypass a Request For Proposal (RFP) process provided that 4/5ths of the members of the Lynwood City Council find that supplies, equipment, services or contract could be obtained from only one source; and WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood finds that the Fitness Court®equipment can only be obtained from the sole source, National Fitness Campaign; and WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood, in its efforts to uphold its commitment to safe and healthy parks, desires to add to its inventory of fitness facilities and opportunities it offers the community, accepts the grant and commits to execution of the project; and NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES HEREBY FIND, PROCLAIM, ORDER AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City Council of the City of Lynwood finds and declares that the foregoing recitals are true and correct, and incorporates said recitals fully into this Resolution as substantive findings. Section 2. Consistent with Lynwood Municipal Code Section 6-3.13(a)(2) and by a vote of not less than four-fifths (4/5) of its members, the City Council finds that the Fitness Court equipment can only be obtained from the sole source, National Fitness Campaign, and approves the following appropriation from the 2017 Lease Revenue Bonds Unappropriated Fund Balance for the purchase and installation of a National Fitness Campaign Fitness Court® at Lynwood City Park: Fund Dept. Div. Services $145,000 Section 3. The City Council further authorizes staff and its marketing consulting firm to execute the development and marketing of a corporate sponsorships opportunity program to subsidize the cost of the Fitness Court®, with all proceeds to be used to recompense this appropriation. Section 4. The City Council further finds that this request and project serves the important public purpose of encouraging healthy living and providing opportunities for the creation of a healthy community. Section 5.
