HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution - 73-10- 19730328 - Encourage State to spendRESOLUTION NO, 73-10 RESOLUTION URGING USE OF 1973 CALIFORNIA STATE BUDGET SURPLUS FOR URBAN AND REGIONAL PARKS AND OPEN SPACE. WHEREAS, there exists a 1973 budget surplus of eight hundred fifty million dollars in the State of California ; and WHEREAS, the Governor has indicated his intent that all citizens of this State should share this surplus ; and WHEREAS, there is a most urgent need for urban and regional parks and open space for the recreational needs of an aesthetic enjoyment by all citizens of this state; and WHEREAS, preservation of dwindling open space would greatly enhance the quality of life for all residents ; and WHEREAS, funds at the local level are heavily committed for education welfare, administration and capital improvement costs; NOW, THEREFORE, THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE MIDPENINSULA REGIONAL PARK DISTRICT DOES RESOLVE that a major portion of the budget surplus of the State of California be placed in a revolving fund to be used by the cities , counties, and regional park districts of this State for the acquisition of parks and open space lands ; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that these funds be administered by the State Office of Planning and Research at an interest rate that would cover the management costs thereof ; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be transmitted to the Governor and our representatives in the State Legislature.
