A special meeting of Town Council was held today in Johnnie Ganem's Restaurant in Savannah at 1 P.M. and was attended by Mayor Brown, who presided, and Coheil- men Meddin, Peters, Powers, Lovell, Hosti and Town Attorney Solms. The meeting was called for the following: 1 - To discuss ways and means of working out arrangements with - the Chatham County Commissioners for the operation of the prison camp at Savannah Beach Adopt a resolution approving the action of the County Commissioners regarding the Tybee Toll Road The Mayor stated that an effort to work out something with the Commissioners that the County pay the salary of one guard for one year instead of two guards for six months and that the prisoners be permitted to collect garbage and trash as is now being done that at least twenty (20)prisoners be made available for this work on the garbage trucks half day on Saturday with the Town furnishing the guards as previously. After some discussion the Mayor appointed a committee consisting of himself, Councilmen Meddin and Hosti and Town Attorney Solms to call on'the County commissioners regarding the camp. A certified copy of the report of the Chatham County Commissioners regarding the acquisition of land owned by J. D. McLamb for the Savannah Beach expressway. Tt was moved, seconded and passed that the report be adopted and the following resolution passed. A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, were assembled in a special meeting this day when it was learned that the Chatham County Commissioners and Ex- Officio Judges had on this date taken action toward the acquisition of right -of -way on the proposed new Savannah Beach Expressway. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of Savannah Beach, Type Island, in special meeting assembled, and it is hereby resolved by authority of the same, that the Chatham County 6ommissioners and ExxOfficio Judges be commended for their action in acquiring the additional right -of -way necessary to expediate construction of the proposed project, it being strongly hoped that no further delays will be encountered and that the work may begin immediately. BE IT rH!ktTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of Council and a copy thereof be sent to the Chatham County Commissioners and Ex- Officio Judges. 1 There being no further business Council adjourned subject to the call of the Mayor.
