I would like to take a moment to make you aware that Cable ONE is currently in
negotiations with Fisher Communications, (KBOI-CBS channel 8) and Block
Communications, (KTRV-IND channel 12) for retransmission consent.
As you may know, since 1992 broadcast television stations have been allowed by
Congress to grant or deny permission, as well as charge retransmission consent fees,
to cable television systems to carry their channels. Our current agreements with
Fisher Communications and Block Communications expire at midnight on
December 31, 2012.
At Cable ONE, we are committed to providing our customers with the best TV
programming at a reasonable price. Programming is our most expensive cost, which
is why we vigorously negotiate with broadcasters for retransmission consent.
Unfortunately, Fisher Communications and Block Communications are demanding
triple digit rate increases for programming that they make available for free over -
the -air and on the Internet. We do not feel that this is fair to our cable customers,
and we believe it's our responsibility to take a stand and protect our customers from
these excessive price increases.
Cable ONE will continue to negotiate with both Fisher Communicaitons and Block
Communications in hopes of reaching an agreement that is fair for everyone.
However, we wanted to make you aware that Fisher Communicaitons and Block
Communications could force Cable ONE to remove their stations from our line-up.
Our efforts to resolve this issue will continue and I will keep you informed. Please feel
free to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Goettsche
