Trueblood suggested it would make sense for Collins to talk about the garden because she designed it.
• Local nurseries outreach
Board members noted that Member Liz Waters (absent) had sent an email informing them that Gro-
Smart is willing to order plants suggested by the Tree Board.
Item 6: Updates
• Hillsborough Garden Club:
Trueblood and Lewis discussed who has planted which planters. There are four old planters at the
Orange County Historical Museum and two at Town Hall for the Garden Club to remove. There are two
new ones at the museum that need soil and to be planted. Trueblood reviewed that the Garden Club is
still maintaining three planters at the Police Department, two at the Visitors Center and four at the
museum.
• Staff updates — Trueblood reported that:
○ A tree was removed at Turnip Patch Park because it was fallin g. She would like to remove two
others that are not doing well.
○ A dead tree was removed from the Margaret Lane Cemetery. She would like to replace the
dead cherry tree at that location with an ornamental tree in the fall. The black walnut trees
approved for removal at Town Hall were also removed.
○ David Hinkle, the bee hotel creator, is adding materials to the habitat in the Gold Park
pollinator garden. Trueblood and Hinkle have discussed placing a low fence and some plantings
around the structure so that people are less inclined to touch it. The Public Works Department
will install the simple fencing.
○ There will be no April meeting. Subcommittees are encouraged to meet with no more than
three members.
○ At Turnip Patch Park, more plants are being planted as the gardener sources them.
