RESOLUTION NO. 2020.047
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
APPROVING A CONTRACT WITH BURKE, WILLIAMS & SORENSEN,
LLP, TO PROVIDE SPECIALZED LEGAL SERVICES
WHEREAS, the City has a need for specialized laborAemployment relations legal
services, including Memoranda of Understanding negotiations; and
WHEREAS, The City of Lynwood values its employees and believes that
maintaining positive employee relations is a fundamental operating belief; and,
WHEREAS, there are no current existing contracts to provide these services;
and,
WHEREAS, Burke, Williams & Sorensen, LLP has extensive experience
negotiating Memoranda of Understanding for cities through-out Southern California,
and,
WHEREAS, Burke, Williams & Sorensen, LLP can provide these legal services
at a cost of$145-$320 per hour; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood's Municipal Code (LMC) Sec. 6-3.13(a)(5)
provides that the procurement of legal services is exempt from the City's competitive
bidding requirements.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES
HEREBY FIND, PROCLAIM, ORDER AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council authorizes the Mayor to sign an Agreement with
Burke, Williams & Sorensen, LLP for a period of April 8, 2020, through June 30, 2021,
for an amount not to exceed $30,000 for Fiscal Year 19-20 and $70,000 per year for
Fiscal Year 20-21, subject to budget availability, and in a form approved by the City
Attorney
Section 2. Lynwood Municipal Code Section 6-3.13(a)(5) provides that the
procurement of legal services is an exempt from the City's competitive bidding
requirements.
Section 3. That this resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
