HomeMy Public PortalAbout027-1989- AMENDING CERTAIN PROVISIONS OF THE POLICE MERIT COMMISSION OF THE CITYORDINANCE NO. 27-1989 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CERTAIN PROVISIONS OF THE POLICE MERIT COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND. WHEREAS, it has been deemed necessary and advisable for certain changes lobe made in the ordinances establishing the Police Merit Commission for the City of Richmond; and, WHEREAS, the Police Merit Commission and the City Administration have agreed on certain changes to be made, NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana that Amended Ordinance No. 3187-1977, establishing the Richmond Police Merit Commission be amended as follows: SECTION 2. Delete the followina: F. The commission shall submit a budget annually to the Chief of Police and the Chief of Police shall include in his budget an amount sufficient to provide funds for the necessary expenses of the commission. A person may not serve on the commission if he receives any remuneration as salary from a public fund. A public fund is not to be construed to include monies received as remuneration, salary or fees as a public defender, educator, or physician, nor the per diem provided under this plan. SECTION 2. Add the following: F. The commission shall submit a budget annually to the City Controller for an amount sufficient to provide funds for the necessary expenses of the commission. The change would allow a budget for the Merit Commission independent of the Police Department's budget thereby providing additional insurance of the independent actions of the commission. The request was recommended to the Merit Commission by the City Attorney.
