Orange St. Present: Casey Collins, Vice Chair Frances Harris, Phyllis Simon, Liz Waters and Greg Yavelak (ex officio) Absent: Chair Andrea Lewis, Tim Logue and Bryan Stuart Staff: Public Space Manager Stephanie Trueblood Guests: Carol Staton Item 1: Call to order, roll call, and confirmation of quorum Vice Chair Frances Harris called the meeting to order at 9 a.m. Public Space Manager Stephanie Trueblood called the roll and confirmed the presence of a quorum. Item 2: Additions to the agenda and agenda adjustment There were no changes or adjustments. Item 3: Approval of minutes from March 21, 2018, meetings Motion: Member Phyllis Simon moved to approve the minutes as presented. Member Casey Collins seconded. Vote: Unanimous Item 4: Turnip Patch Park butterfly garden Carol Staton offered a proposal of plants for the Turnip Patch Park butterfly garden. Board members discussed locations for the plants and decided Turnip Patch Park would be the best place. Member casey Collins and Staff Stephanie Trueblood will visit the site with carol Stanton and begin planning for transplanting the plants. No action taken Item 5: Review draft Cates Creek Park Master Plan and offer recommendations for trees Trueblood reviewed the draft pans for Cates Creek Park including continuing the linear rain garden in place of the stormwater swale, planting the entrances and around the playground area, an d establishing native grasses on slopes that have erosion issues. The board members agreed with the recommendations . Item 6: Determine watering volunteers for summer 2018: • Cates Creek Park pollinator garden and trees: Logue • Turnip Patch Park butterfly garden: Hillsborough Garden Club • West King Street parking lot: France and Bill Harris Page 2 of 2 • Churton Street trees and West King Street planters: staff Item 7: Review 2018 Treasure Tree-Crepe Myrtle article written By Frances Harris Board members decided to wait until June to publish the article so a photograph could be taken while the trees were in bloom. No action was taken. Item 8: Update on Bee City 2018 initiatives: • Earth Evening subcommittee: debrief event • National Pollinator Week planning: Meet the Garden at Cates Creek Park event June 16, 2018 • Local nurseries outreach update: Liz Waters Item 9: Updates • Hillsborough Garden Club: • Staff updates — Trueblood reported that: ○ Trees approved for removal by this board have been removed at the Town Hall Campus. ○ Planters Item 10: Adjourn Harris adjourned the meeting at 10:26 a.m.
