HomeMy Public PortalAbout056-2013 - shortfall appealORDINANCE NO.56-2013 AN ORDINANCE TO PETITION FOR A SHORTFALL APPEAL DUE TO ERRONEOUS ASSESSED VALUE WHEREAS, the City of Richmond experienced a property tax revenue shortfall in 2012 from erroneous assessed valuation figures provided to the city; and WHEREAS, the erroneous assessed valuation figures were used by the city in determining its total property tax rate; and WHEREAS, the error in the assessed valuation figures was found after the city's property tax levy resulting from that total rate was finally approved by the department of local government finance; WHEREAS, the property tax shortfall has occurred due to erroneous assessed valuation for the taxing year 2011 in the estimated amount of $258,356.00 NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Richmond, Indiana, as follows: BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council approves the City of Richmond's appeal to the Local Government Tax Control Board and Department of Local Government Finance for a property tax shortfall, due to erroneous assessed valuation, pursuant to IC 6-1.1- 18.5-16. This appeal shall be filed with the Department of Local Government Finance office in Indianapolis. SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption by the City Council and signing by the Mayor.
