AUTHORIZING AN AGREEMENT WITH MCEOC - FAMILY
READING INITIATIVE
WHEREAS, the Middlesex County Equal Opportunities Corporation
("MCEOC") has agreed to provide $6,000.00 to the Curteret Library Association
to purchase books as part of a Family Reading Initiative program, and to provide
other related services for said program; and
WHEREAS, as part of MCEOC's offer to provide said funds and related
services, it is requesting that the Borough of Carteret ("Borough") contribute
funds for promotional materials for the Family Reading Initiative in an amount
not to exceed $500.00; and
WHEREAS, in addition to a monetary contribution, MCEOC has requested that
the Borough agree to celebrate National Family Literacy Day on November 1,
2002 and has also requested that members of the Governing Body volunteer at
least one day per month to participate in family reading time at the Carteret
Library; and
WHEREAS, the Borough of Carterct and the MCEOC desire to memorialize
their respective commitments to the success of the Family Reading Initiative
program to be run in conjunction with thc Carteret Library Association; and
WHEREAS, an Agreement which so memorializes the parties respective
commitments is attached hereto and made a part hereof.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the
Borough of Carteret, County of Middlesex, State of New Jersey as follows:
1. That the attached Agreement between the MCEOC, the
Carteret Library Association and the Borough of Carteret is hereby
approved.
2. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to sign said
Agreement to reflect the Governing Body's commitment to
contribute to and participate in the Family Reading Initiative as set
forth therein.
3. That a copy of this Resolution and signed Agreement be
forwarded to the MCEOC.
Adopted this 3rd day of October, 2002
and certified as a true copy of the
original on October 4, 2002.
