HomeMy Public PortalAboutLibrary Dept. report 09.2021Memo / To: City Council From: Meg Lojek, Library Director CC: Anette Spickard, City Manager Date: 10/1/21 Re: Monthly Department Report – September 2021 Classes, Workshops, Events: Space is limited, so with COVID cases on the rise, we are not offering indoor after school programs until further notice. What programs offered will either be outdoors or limited to 4 or 5 participants. With the change in weather, staff will be hosting some programs, like Doing Democracy and Ready for Kindergarten Workshops, virtually and/or hybrid. Library Board of Trustees Opening: Many thanks expressed to Patrick Coyle for his service on the Library Board. His retirement opens the door for anyone interested in serving on the Board of Trustees, whose responsibilities are to set policy and budget priorities for the public library. Please submit a letter of interest to the McCall City Clerk. Deadline to apply will be October 8th. Grants: Story Walk is installed and we had our grand opening event on the bike path behind the library. Thanks to Idaho Humanities Council for grant support and Barn Owl Books as our local sponsor. Contact the library with ideas for the next content of the Story Walk, which is scheduled for late spring 2022. Staff: The Library is seeking applications for a front desk staff person to fill a recently vacated position. There is no doubt that recruitment is difficult at this time with the pay scale we are able to offer but we’re hopeful to fill the position soon. Posting is open until filled. Library Stats: September statistics will be included in next month’s report. CBS Sunday Morning: A surprise visit from Pulitzer Prize winning author Anthony Doerr honored our local librarians as part of Doerr’s promotion for his new novel. Scheduled to air 10/3/21. #anthonydoerr Calendar: Please see attached for upcoming October events. Star News, September 23, 2021
