City of McCall Centennial Committee
Centennial Plaza Project
McCall was formally recognized as an incorporated village by the Boise County
Commissioners on July 19, 1911. Over the past several years, McCall residents, business
owners, community volunteers and City leaders worked together to plan a special
celebration of McCall's first 100 years. On July 19, 2011, over 1500 people gathered in
downtown McCall near Payette Lake and enjoyed a family-fun street fair, community
BBQ, United States Naval F-5 Jet flyover, birthday cake and ice cream, music, dancing,
and had the opportunity to rekindle old friendships. It was truly a memorable event.

"Zumba" dancers help celebrate McCall's 100th
During the planning process, the McCall Centennial Committee put forth the idea
of creating a permanent structure of some sort to recognize the centennial and to honor
the local historical events and people that have shaped McCall into such a wonderful
place. Through significant volunteer efforts, the Centennial Plaza concept was born. It is
slated for construction the summer, 2012 and consists of two phases, with the initial
unveiling to be on July 19, 2012 at the "Centennial + One" celebration. The Centennial
Committee is diligently fundraising for the project, and the City of McCall's Public
Works, Parks and Recreation, and Community Development Departments as well as the
McCall City Council have been actively involved in the project development. Attached is
the conceptual drawing of the Plaza, which will be constructed on the corner of Railroad
Avenue and Third Street, a highly visible and popular location adjacent to State Highway
55. The Plaza would provide a pleasant meeting place in the heart of downtown, with
new landscaping, lighting, tables, a paver plaza, historical information, with the highlight
of the plaza being a low serpentine river rock wall, embedded with colored glass and
mosaic tile. Historical events and the area's natural features will be depicted in the art
wall by local artists. Centennial Plaza will be a delightful and creative attraction in
downtown and appeal to residents and visitors of all ages.
The project budget has been updated and there is significant local contribution to
the project. Donations include architectural design, excavation and backfill, concrete, a
portion of the rock installation, labor for paver installation and local artists who will
install the mosaic tiles on the rock art wall. The City's Streets Department is providing
staff labor for engineering and project management, asphalt cutting, curb and gutter
removal, a portion of the storm drain costs, and will contract with an area concrete
contractor for the ADA pedestrian ramps installation, sidewalks and curbing. The City
Parks Department will provide staff labor for paver installation and site preparation for
irrigation and landscaping. The Centennial Committee is working hard to fundraise for
the other various components of the Plaza to include the art wall, river rock and
installation, pavers, monument stone, a portion of the artists' costs and art materials,
metal trellises, electrical work, rock tables, and commemorative plaques. Fundraising
includes soliciting cash donations, a Local Option Tax award, and ongoing engraved
brick paver sales.
For purposes of fundraising, the McCall Centennial Committee is under the
umbrella of the McCall Community Improvement Corporation(MCIC), a 501 (c) 3
private non-profit organization. The funds raised are in a separate account, not included
in the City of McCall budget, but the project is a public-private endeavor. The Centennial
Committee is an advisory committee to the City of McCall, a governmental entity, and
this application is being submitted by the City of McCall for the project. A copy of the
IRS determination letter for the MCIC is attached.
{
The total expected cost of the project is approximately $162,975. The Centennial
Committee has cash on hand and pending donations of$54,556. and local "in-kind"
contributions (including that of the City of McCall staff and budget)totaling $72,844.
(Please see attached budget). Memorial engraved bricks are currently being sold for the
plaza, and the target for brick sales this summer is 100 bricks ($10,000)which will be
directed to the completion costs.
The funding request to the Laura Moore Cunningham Foundation is $25,575. This
request is made for the following items:
Portion of storm drain modification costs by City $ 6575
Electrical costs by Centennial Committee $ 2000
Rock tables by Centennial Committee $ 4000
Metal trellises and installation by Centennial Committee $10,000
Portion of irrigation/landscaping by Parks Department $ 3000
Total $25,575
