WATER COMMITTEE MEETING A meeting of the Water Committee was held today, Saturday, April 23rd at 3 P.M. in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall. Those present were Dr. Hohenstein, Mr. Davis and Mr.Lovell, members of the Committee, Mayor Brown, Councilman Waters and Council- man —elect Counihan. As Chairman of the Committee Mr.Lovell presided. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss proposed changes in the manner of handling the bulk rate of 100,000 gallons for $30.00 accounts and to reset the meter reading schedule. It had been proposed that when a consumer exceeds his 100,000 gallons quota he be allowed to purchase another 100,000 gallons at the same rate of $30.00 and that all meters be read on a six months basis. Also that all water consumers be put on the 100,000 gallons for $30.00 rate payable in advance, which would insure prompt payment and save on accaant keeping. After much discussion y all present it was finally agreed that: 1. a —The present system of 100,000 gallons of.water for $30,00 less 10 per cent if paid for by lay 15th or no discount if paid by June 30th be continued. Anyone not making payment in full by June 30th will be on the regular meter rate based on $5.00 for 15,000 gallons for the two month period schedule. b— Anyone who, having used his 100,000 gallons up during the year would be permitted to purchase an additional 100,000 gallons for $27.00 cash, with application to apply for the current fiscal year. Any amount of water not used through April 30th of the current fiscal year would be forfeited. Then the user will have to ar>ply for the new fiscal year beginning May 1st. 2, The consumers using the two month schedule for 15,000 gallons for $5.00 will continue. However it is expected that the rules govern- ing payment on this basis, shall be enforced. Failure to pay within 15 days of receipt of bill will result in discontinuance of service after proper notice is given. 3. It was decided that all meters on the two month basis to be read every two months and bills sent out . The meters of the bulk.rate water users are to be read every four months andbills sent out to those exceeding the 100,000 gallons subscribed for and the regular procedure for billing for the balance of the fiscal year be followed, unless they subscribe for an additional 100,000 gallons as previously outlined in paragraph 1 b. 4. It was agreed that the meters should be read by the same person or persons for each reading, by persons capable of reading and recording the readings correctly. It was suggested that Mr. Blair of the Parking Meter Department be assigned to this job. For the May 1st annual reading Mbssrs. Reed and Howard also to be used. According to our records for the fiscal year 1965 and 1966 we had 498 meters on the 100,000 gallons annual schedule and325 meters on the 15,000 gallon tic month.schedule, a total of 823. Since the Committee was given the power to act, the above rules are to go into effect as of April 25th, 1966. Respectfully submitted, WILLIAM S. LOVELL , CHAIRMAN (Signed) C.
