Re: Monthly Department Report – April 2021
1. Classes, Workshops, Events:
Valley County Big Read updates: There has been huge response to this NEA Big Read effort. McCall
Library is happy to partner with Donnelly and Cascade libraries. Over 100 Circe books, 40 kids books
and many e-books have been distributed. The Capstone event will be May 23 at the Roseberry Barn,
with food, trivia, face painting, and prizes. Sponsored by National Endownment for the Arts. For
information: www.bigreadvalleycounty.lili.org
After School Adventures: the final session started, and will carry the 10 families involved through the
end of the academic year with safe and educational programming after school. Library staff have
added this to their regular duties this year and it’s appreciated by all.
Doing Democracy (Zoom)-6:30 PM May 24th: “What’s Really Important to Idahoans about
Education?” April topic was Preserving our Rural Heritage and drew a vibrant discussion about local
farming, ranchng and land heritage. All are welcome to join these conversations. Email
library@mccall.id.us to receive the Zoom invite.
Ready! For Kindergarten workshops will wrap up this May. These 1 hour workships prepare young
children to succeed in school. Parents can borrow equipment or use the library to connect. Each family
that participates receives a school supply kit with fun educational play/learning materials to use at
home. This is a grant funded program.
Other events: on the attached calendar, including Seed Swap and virtual philharmonic concert.

3. Projects and Grants:
Library grant for a Book Bike was featured in the Star News April 29th (see below). The Book Bike
will visit Barbara Morgan Elementary School the next two Fridays to celebrate the end of the school
year and sign kids up for the library’s Summer Reading Program.
The Story Path grant from Idaho Humanities Council has received an extension to re-plan a more
COVID safe event. The grand opening of the path will be rescheduled for September.

4. Library Stats:
Current statistics are included in this report. We are seeing 75% of normal checkouts, which is amazing
considering the pandemic and limited entry to the library.
5. Calendar:
Please see the attached calendar for upcoming May events.
