• Alcohol is not a major issue for Orange Crush (Chief Bryson)
How to control bad behavior during the Spring Break period?
• Tybee has existing laws to discourage bad behavior period... not just during
Spring Break
• Underage Drinking (6-9)
• Disturbing the Peace (42-60)
• Most spring break visitors are not troublemakers
• Problems are caused by small minority
• Shouldn't we beholding the troublemakers responsible for their bad behavior?
• Instead, proposed ordinance imposes restrictions on residents and visitors who are
well behaved and are not contributing to any spring break problems
• What happens if this ordinance is adopted?
• Several groups have long standing "encampments" on the beach —there every
weekend -- no more "cold ones" while relaxing with family and friends
• No adult beverages while watching sunset at Alley 3
• No more beer while surf fishing
• No relaxing drink in one of Tybee's beach swings after a hard day at work
• Effective Enforcement of existing laws is the best way to control bad behavior
• If police can't effectively enforce the laws we already have...How can they enforce
this one?
• If they can effectively enforce those existing laws.... They should!
