Re: Monthly Department Report – (December 2021)
Network Infrastructure, Projects and Services:
• Valley County has published an RFP requesting middle mile services out of Valley County.
This RFP seeks connectivity into an internet meet point. Responses to the RFP were
expected by December 30th, 2021. The RFP was forwarded to ~10 potential providers. Only
one response was received to the RFP and that came from Zipley. Their response did not
meet the requirements of the RFP. It is anticipated that we will look for alternative solutions
to solve the middle mile.
• The Idaho Broadband Taskforce has had 2 meetings focused on determining the guidelines
that they will use for disbursement of State and Federal grant funds. The goal is to have a set
of guidelines in place by the end of January. Discussions seem to support the need to fund
middle mile and underserved areas of the state. Current federal maps include the entirety of
Valley County as “underserved”.
• Vlatko recently completed training on Azure. Azure is a subscription based, management
console that provide us insight into all of our Microsoft applications – O365, Active
Directory, phones etc. Additionally, Azure can provide us a virtual environment that can
host our systems or be utilized as a testing platform. It is a powerful tool that we use on a
daily basis and this training will help us extend the capabilities of our applications.
