Memo
To: City Council
From: Meg Lojek, Library Director
CC: Anette Spickard, City Manager
Date: July 14, 2022
Re: Monthly Department Report – June 2022
1. Classes, Workshops, Events:
Summer Reading: We have 3 outdoor programs full to capacity every week all summer long, and an
“independent reader” program to serve kids grades 1-8. Preschool story times continue twice weekly.
Get Artsy Class Series: Tuesdays with Mrs. Hamilton serving 1st-6th graders.
High Noon Book Discussions: July’s book is Maid by Stephanie Land. July 18th at noon. This is book
generated the Netflix series by the same name, about a young mother in Seattle area and her struggles
with hard work and low pay.
ESL Classes Continue: Free, Mondays at 4:30 at the library. English learners of all levels.
Effective Communication for People with Alzheimers: presented in partnership with St. Luke’s
McCall Caregiver Lecture Series, July 19th at 7:00 PM.
Rotary Presentation: Meg and members of the Library Foundation will present an update on the
library expansion project July 13th.
2. Library Staff:
The library has been very busy. Bryce Meuschke and George Speirs were selected as summer
library interns (grant funded) to assist in programs and librarianship this summer. Staff members are
also helping prepare for construction to begin in July. Books and shelving had to be moved and
rearranged to accommodate the new entrance.
3. Library Stats:
June statistics are included in this report.
4. Calendar:
July events calendar is included in this report, and is also on the website:
