HomeMy Public PortalAboutGolf Department Report July 2022Memo / To: City Council From: Eric McCormick, Golf Course Superintendent CC: Anette Spickard, City Manager Date: 1/9/2023 Re: Monthly Department Report –July 2022 Weather: 4th of July Weekend was cool then the rest of July warm with hot temperatures the last week of the month Staff: At the end of June, we were at 3 full time and 14 seasonal staff. Six of the seasonal staff are part time. We lost one seasonal the end of the month with another leaving the end of this week. We will loose 3 more back to school mid-month. I have gotten a lead on a returning part time employee and another full-time seasonal that will help get us through fall. Greens: Greens are in great shape, and we have been getting complements on how they are playing this early in the season. The dry spots really showed up the last week during the Amateur as we always dry out the course for tournament play. Club House I have decided to push the ramp project off until November when we can shut down the building and not have to put up a temporary ramp. Am waiting to hear if the contractor can work in that window if not it may get pushed to spring before we open next season. Restaurant: Banyan’s reports that they have been very busy. Finding and keeping cooks is an issue but they are getting by. Having the tournaments on tee times has definitely helped with their ability to serve the number of golfers with less staff. Cart Paths I got an estimate to grind and repave three of the worst paths on the course. 1, 2 & 9 Aspen. It was over $100,000. I am thinking that we will wait until next year and put or money together and hopefully fuel prices will improve. Although I don’t believe they will. We are also having to figure out how to haul asphalt onto the course without doing damage and around play. One option that we have talked about is to just grind and level the paths for now. We are still looking at options Ladies Paver Project The contractor finally arrived July 1 to start this project. Tournaments In July we hosted the 2 Lady best ball and the McCall Amateur Innovational. Both were packed with lots of complements to both course conditions and the way the events were run by the proshop. RV Hookups The golf course is working on putting three RV Hookups, with electrical, sewer and water, in at the maintenance yard for seasonal employee housing. Other departments would be able to utilize them if the golf department isn’t using them. This project is stalled until I get the ramp project completed and see where we are with funding. Irrigation With July finishing hot and drying out the course for the Amateur we have had to have two people hand watering and keeping up with dry spots. The system itself is doing fine. Tee Project I have been working on getting a bid to have a construction company come and relevel existing tees and build forward tees, part of our master plan. After contacting 5 different companies I finally got a bid from Landscapes Unlimited to do 9 hole this fall. They are doing the work at Tamarack and a project at Jug Mountain. Sense they are working in the area the next couple of years they said they could work us in. We will be working through the contract and bring it to council soon.
